Just starting my first post here on the form to make you guys jealous. I just recently picked up a Cold Steel Lone Star Hunter and fell in love. I have been carrying it every day and loving it. I dont mind the faux stag scales or the tight clip. The lock did give me a sore thumb for the first few days, but I've massaged it enough now that it functions adequately. The knife has been discontinued most likely due to the surge of tactical folders and men with lower testosterone, but with a strong enough grip I have no doubt this knife can fight if needed. Chances almost nill since I carry a pistol. Picked it up for $25 and feel like I got a hell of a deal. Tri-lock and stainless frame make this one sturdy folder. 4 inches of AUS 8A in a bowie stlye clip point gets me all excited. Glad I got one before they are all gone. You should do the same.

The knife the broken skull is based on. I never ordered one because I already had the clip point recon 1.

They look great. If they had gone with stag or bone scales I would have bought some.

You could always make your own. Make the knife more personal. G-10, wood, carbon fiber, micarda would all make great replacemens. Im gonna stick with the factory scales for now.

Honestly those scales ruin it for me. Since I don't know sh*t about making scales, and I'm not gonna pay somebody the same amount as the knife cost to get custom scales for it, that rules it out for me.

I've been thinking about grabbing one before they're gone, though I already have the Mackinac Hunter, which I'm very pleased with.

Still, the larger FFG blade is something I find very attractive.

I prefer the Mackinac Hunter but the Lone Star Hunter is also a very fine knife! $25 is a bargain and CS has leather sheaths available if you don't like the clip.

I got one last year for 27.00 I dark stonewashed the stainless handles, they were too slippery and bent out the pocket clip slightly too. Even though the broken skull is based on this, I wish those had stonewashed or satin blades, and steel liners too.

That's a good looking knife. I am anxiously awaiting a Mackinac Hunter, and, if I like the scales, I may pick up one of these also.

Really like the stainless handle and blade shape. Some micarta scales would make it more attractive for me. But $25 is a helluva deal!

The Lone Star feels less slippery than the Mack because it is longer and narrower, in my hands anyway. I took a soldering iron to my Mack to give it some good scale grip. I like them both a lot, super rugged little battle tanks.

I saw some with olive micarta scales. Looked way better. Might have to do that to mine.

If I could find someone to make custom scales for my Mackinac, I'd pull the trigger without a second thought. The delrin scales are fine, but there's nothing particularly functional or nice about them. I would have preferred if Cold Steel did them with 3D machined G-10 scales colored like stag. Now that would be a really cool marriage of functional and traditional!
