Long time coming...A wootz kukri.

my pattern weld lombok knife ( im sure its not true wootz)

and my pesh kabz, that I am not sure about , but here is close up

they both look more just like well folded blades rather than wootzy ones to me

Way over my head Gehazi but it looks cool. To my untrained eye the second one looks more wootzy than the first. But I got nothing to back that up with.

Wonder how one tells for sure?

Banana's?

The wootz tulwar I had had a big forge weld splat in the center of the blade, and that thing would cut...hard targets too (1" hardwood dowel, for one...yeah, I know..:)... I was 23 and didn't know any better). Amazing how tough it was.

Sounds a good one JW! And at least you got to test it! I destroyed many knives & swords as a young man.... shame realy but there were 2 types of learning going on as well, I guess.

Gehazi, That Pesh looks most likely wootz to me. Is there a forge weld or split on or around the the spine? Most AFghan or NW Indian wootz has. Any pics of the whole item?

cats guarding a mg34 set with lots of HI knives.

and here is picture of pesh spine and with sheath

I can take a close up of the spine if you need spiral, its nice to know someone who has a real eye for these things and has studied it so much better than me, appreciate the help.

there does seem to be a very faint "zipper" up the spine--but could just be wishful thinking :D

Gehazi,
when I go to the original of that picture from your photobucket so I can see it full size, the area of the spine just forward of the bolster is the best infocus part. It definately shows a shadow that appears to be a seam, but the photo is a bit fuzzy. Obviously to say for sure someone would have to have the blade instead of a picture. But I would recommend that you consider that one for evaluation by an expert. It sure has all of the signs that would lead me to say it is quite probably true wootz.

Cheers blue lander... for me as the title says ... long time coming...;)

That's a very unusual Pesh blade Gehazi!

But t in very a good way! yep although larger macro pics would be good, {email to spiraltwista@aol.com with kukri in tittle;)} If that easier for higher quality pics. {Of both blade sides & spine ,}

But in all honesty I am sure its a wonderfull old wootz blade, the pattern, the spine seem & quality of blade forging all point to it. it just screams quality!

Congratulations!
