Well…today I just took a break from everything and went for a walk in the woods. It was foggy and rainy nearly the whole trip and I had every intention of hiking wearing a poncho because I just needed to get away for a few… and then right before I parked the rain stopped.

My destination is up there shrouded in mist.

Went past the hole tree…. from previous lightning strike, it’s still standing.

But after a while of Driving down dirt and gravel roads I found my way here…

Woods

there were lots of Blackberries blooming.

and I found this hollowed tree stump someone has been using as a hide for deer hunting

and several of what I think are Cherry trees having some bark issues.

I was wondering if these snails had anything to do with it.

I found where a squirrel had been dining

and even more woods still and no people…

and then finally I found what it was I was seeking

and the I found a couple of Pine Knots and decided to do some firecrafting on these rocks.

on the way back up to the top of the ridge I found an antler a buck had shed.

and at the top of the hill in the edge of the field I found some large wild onions

there was a Turkey hunting supper.

and I found some Polk Salad

But then the sky started looking like this again and it was time to head home.

All in all it was a wonderful, albeit brief, respite…..a peaceful seven hours.

Great pics Mistwalker! Nothing like a walk through the woods in the mist, especially when it's nice and quiet.

Spring has really crept up on me. It's great to see so much greenery in your photos. I haven't had the chance to hit the trails here in over a week, and when I was last out there were still only a few buds here and there, plus the usual carpet of leeks.

BTW - in that first photo, does the sign say "Suck Creek Baptist Church"? If so, what an interesting name for a creek / church!

All the best,

- Mike

Nice pics! I sure hope to make it out to your part of the country some day!

Thanks, it was really nice to get out there today.

To make a long story short....years ago before all the TVA damns controled the flow of water, there was a spot where that particular creek hits the river that at times created a whirlpool that would suck boats under. The river folk in their simple way of seeing things simply refered to that as "the suck", and so the creek came to be known as "Suck Creek". And actually that part of Walden's ridge is known as Suck Creek Mountain.

Nice pics! I sure hope to make it out to your part of the country some day!

Thanks, glad you liked it. If you've never been here I would suggest not coming while the pollen is at it's peak.

Great pics. Thanks for sharing.

Just curious, what part of the country is that? It damn sure isn't South Texas! ;)

Oh... I suppose you know, but in a lot of places it is spring turkey season.... although that one is a hen. Still you must be a fairly stealthy guy to get that pic (or have a hell of a zoom). ;)

Thanks, I think it was a little of both. The woods were wet so it was nice and quiet, and this camera has a good lense but it was just cropped, no zoom at all.

Very nice pics mistwalker. Those overcast rainy days do give the best light for greener than green greens. Looks gorgeous. Spring is finally here and bursting at the seems.

Great pics buddy!! That video clip was cool... full 360, well narated, didn't make me dizzy... I watched it 5 times in a row!!

We gotta get you going on traditional flint and steel. I was just discussing it with KGD... Looking for tinder is challenging, but rewarding.

Ver pretty area! Looks like a very nice relaxing area!

Thanks for sharing the pics!

Beautiful. Wonderful country, great pics, great knives. Everything here in Southern California is dry and brown, so it's great to see pics of actual wild country so green.

Sigh. I can only wish.
