I get email from True West magazine. I used to subscribe. There is an article about the Longmire TV series. I never understood why A&E dropped the show. As far as I could tell, it was the most watched series they ever had. It seems that they knew that they had a winner and wanted to produce the show themselves, but it is owned by Warner and Warner was not about to give it up, so A&E shot themselves in the foot. Longmire is now on Netfix. I read all the books and liked the show, but it's not worth 8 bucks a month to me. I looked at the other stuff on Netflix and didn't see anything that I can't live without.

I'm watching Longmire right now with Mrs. Powernoodle. I give it about 8/10. Good, semi-wholesome mindless entertainment.

As for Netflix, I cancelled our cable tv last year, and so most of our semi-wholesome, mindless entertain now comes from Netflix. Killing our cable tv was one of the most awesome acts of civil disobedience I have ever engaged in. When a cable company offers me ala carte service, where I can select and pay for only the channels I want, then I'll come back. And that will happen eventually. But until then, Netflix (for me) well worth the cost. Love the BBC shows on Netflix (Luther, Vera, Sherlock, Wallander, etc.) that totally blow away anything ever shown on American network television IMO. Rock on.

I've been curious about Longmire because I like Katee Sackoff from Battlestar Galactica. The gents in the Buck forum spoke highly of the show too so it will eventually go onto the queue.

As for Netflix, there's a lot a junk on there, a decent amount of decent stuff, some good shows and movies, and a handful of gems. In my opinion, if you watch a new movie or 2 or watch a season of a show each month then it's worth the price.

I wish BG was still streaming.

They said it was one of their highest rated shows, but the ratings for the 18 to 49 age group were low. Seems the advertisers think we stop spending money when we hit 50.

I watched the show from the start, and was glad when I found out Netflix had picked it up. I've almost finished the new season.

His Buck does get a lot of air time, and more than ever this season. Glad to see it, and it does fit his character.

Me too ! Best Sci-Fi show ever IMO.
I have Amazon Prime, but BG isn't under Prime there. Wish they hadn't of gotten so many of Netflix's shows.

Powernoodle's daily trivia update:

1) Actor Robert Taylor, who portrays Walt Longmire, is Australian. His natural accent is nothing like that of the Longmire character.

2) Robert Taylor portrayed Agent Jones in The Matrix. Link.

OK, I have to ask......

Did Branch shoot Barlow or vice versa? Dang! I read all the books, but I can't remember what happened or in which book this took place.

I can't really tell you much about that without it being a spoiler for those that are just starting the new season.
I'll shoot you a PM.

I've quite enjoyed this series, and hadn't known about the books prior. Even though it is set in WY but filmed in NM, the landscape is pretty similar overall, which lends credit to the story. I was elated that Netflix picked it up for another season (I have 2 more episodes to go), and hope they choose to do another.

The feel of the show has been a little bit different this season, but not too bad. They seem to be wrapping long-running storylines up faster instead of drawing them out, which I prefer. The biggest thing that has bugged me the most about this season are the technical mistakes that I don't recall noting in previous seasons.

Neither of those characters are in the books.

I was glad Netflix picked up the show, but I don't think this new season rates as highly, especially in terms of continuity. Maybe they needed more episodes?

Neither of those characters are in the books.

EDIT: OK, the character was changed. It has been a few years since I read the earlier books. Wasn't his name then Turk Connelly?

Hey, I'm old. I forget things.

Hey, I'm old. I forget things.

The character of Lucian Connelly, retired Sheriff and Walts mentor and friend is in the books and the show but the characters of Barlow and Branch Connelly were created for the show. I don't recall all the details of the earliest books but there's nobody in them that really resembles the Connelly father and son characters that I remember. There's certainly no story line in any of the books that resembles what happens between Branch and Barlow Connelly that I can recall.

Fun fact. The actor who plays retired Sheriff but still working curmudgeon Lucian is Peter Weller, best known for his role in the film "Robocop". He's also directed numerous episodes of Longmire and quite a few other television shows.

Just as I started getting into the show, they up and cancelled/moved it. Still not sure what happened, but it was a cool show to watch, reminded me of the well made Westerns with a modern twist.

I'm really enjoying Longmire.

My wife and I "cut the cord" and we only have Internet and pretty much watch Netflix exclusively. We find lots of great shows to watch - well worth $8 per month.

Nice to be paying $60 less per month than I used to pay for cable as well.

I might be doing that soon, or switching to Dish/DirecTV. I can get reasonable deals from teh cable providers in my area as I work with a lot of the engineers and such. But the rate hikes are a bit much too much lately.

We have been thinking about going to dish, but I hate their bait and switch. Big letters. $49.95 a month for 2 years. Tiny letters. $7 extra for another TV. Want the shows that you watch now? Add $15. Want the other show that you watch? Add $25. They do give you Netflix for a year free. Read the fine print.

I had considered Direct TV until AT&T bought it. There are two companies that I will not voluntarily have anything to do with. Bank of America and AT&T.
