Longmire

I hope that they put this season on a DVD set so my husband can purchase it.

We have the other DVD seasons of this show.

We have OTA reception where I built this house in town and no dish/cable connection for the boob tube on purpose.

I do have a cable connection for the internet but we may change that around towards the end of the year. I can't stand CHARTER. Ugh.

The books sound good.

When I first heard the actor's name, Robert Taylor, I thought of the old, famous actor not this Aussie actor. I liked/like BOTH Robert Taylor actors!

Like the show.... We turned off cable TV and watched netflix for years.... Now we turn on cable just for football as it keeps the bar bill low. ;)

Fun fact. The actor who plays retired Sheriff but still working curmudgeon Lucian is Peter Weller, best known for his role in the film "Robocop". He's also directed numerous episodes of Longmire and quite a few other television shows.

I wondered what happened to Weller. I think that I read somewhere once that he was a university prof. or some such. Today he looks like he crawled into a bottle for a couple of decades before a reappearance. But Longmire.........., I used to catch it now and then and found it to be interesting.

Just as I started getting into the show, they up and cancelled/moved it. Still not sure what happened, but it was a cool show to watch, reminded me of the well made Westerns with a modern twist.

Theories abound about why A&E cancelled it. It was the most watched show on their network but there were apparently demographic issues and production ownership issues that overcame the viewing numbers.

I'm glad that it got picked up by Netflix, hope they bring it back to where it was story and writing wise.

Craig Johnson's books have plenty of good story material, the show writers seem to only touch on them and then go off onto some weird tangential stories. I wish they'd get back to the roots of the character and his life and the people around him.

Uffy, get the Netflix. Bloodline is good, house of cards, many series. Best 7 bucks a month I can spend. Spoiled binge watching without commercials nor even opening theme, go right into next episode. Have not watched long ire, maybe that is my next. Bloodline was good, did I say that already?

New Longmire season starts on 9/23, exclusive to Netflix. I liked the TV series as much as the books, books are a little more edgy and Craig Johnson's humor is great.

Finished binge watching season 5 on Netflix this morning. Although it can be slow paced, I enjoy the show. :)

Hopefully, it will be released on DVD. The original series on A&E is available at the library.

I just checked and the library has the 4th season on DVD. I am only 26th on the list. I may get to see it before I die. :D

I'm still #18 waiting for the latest book.

I'm mostly thru season 5 right now. Can't put my finger on exactly why but I'm liking it better than I did season 4. I still wish they'd use the story lines from the books more.

I've read that Netflix has announced that this will be the final season, hoping they might extend it for a couple more.

I have only watched the first two episodes of Season 5 so far, but I binged watched the first four season and really liked the show. The one thing that I joke about with my dad and brother who got me to watch it is that this sparsely populated country in Wyoming appears to have a murder rate higher than that of Honduras, El Salvador and Chicago combined. :D

I like it. Its shot in New Mexico but it will pass for Wyoming. Still haven't seen any pronghorn in it. The books are fantastic and I think that Craig Johnson's support of the show is one thing that keeps it going.

We watched three of the new episodes, good so far. There is a new book out, too, "An Obvious Fact", I'm next in line at my digital library.

I mentioned, in the book thread, about a book series by C.J. Box. The central character is Joe Pickett, a Wyoming game warden. Some very good plots, interesting characters. I'm on book 11 and there are few disappointments. Joe's got a friend, Nate, who is one hardcore guy, you won't believe how he gets things done.

the books are so much better than the show itself . But we wish we still had it TV.
Never got into the show much as it abandoned much of what made the books fantastic. Surprised Johnson let it happen; just can't get used
to a blonde haired VIC who treats Walt like a father figure...

Longmire is a likable show, nothing great, but I am impressed how they played out just a handful of characters. Haven't started the last season yet...

We cut the cord two years ago, when DirecTV jacked up their prices - breaking the contract cost me less than what I'd have paid to complete those two years. We exclusively watch Netflix, and Amazon Prime. Uff, Netflix does have a fantastic lineup of crime and drama, an excellent selection of BBC/British crime that is far far superior to American crime series. Some of my favorites below:
1. Foyle's War (British crime, backdrop of WWII). All seasons on Netflix, just awesome. Michael Kitchen is an excellent actor.
2. Wallander (original Swedish, Kirster Henriksson is at his career best, IMO, playing as Kurt Wallander). Best of crime noir.
3. Rectify (originally broadcast on Sundance).
4. The Bletchley Circle
5. Hinterland
6. Narcos (Pablo Escobar... 'nuf said).
7. Detectorists (heartwarming drama, a very nice break from a stressful day!).

Looks like we like the same shows! Just watching Detectorists Season 2 now. I don't know how they do it, but it is very likable/enjoyable!

I will not post any spoilers, but I am disappointed with the way Walt is going "crazy" in season 5. It makes me not like his character at all. Still love the show, but Walt is being a real a-hole to everyone close to him!

Havng been a fan late to the show, I've been watching the Series "Longmire" on netflix, kind of catching up on the show's past seasons. Of course, the TV show has Walt Longmire using a Buck 110 in most of the later shows with the Schrade in the first season.

By coincidence, I was a the library to check out some reading material, and I saw Author Craig Johnsons's books on the shelf and checked out a few. Now I do understand why he's a popular writer and a TV show was made form his books.

But…in the books, Sheriff Walt Longmire uses a bone handle Case XX of unknown model. In the book "Hell Is Empty" on page 247, Johnson wrote; " I remembered that I had put my old bone handled Case XX in the zippered pocket in my pants, so I took off my gloves, retrieved it, and reached down to cut her free."

In the book, Sheriff Longmire had trailed an escaped convict with a female FBI agent hostage through a blizzard in the Big horns.

Author Craig Johnson lives in in Ucross, Wyoming with a population of twenty five. I can only presume that Mr. Johnson has knowledge of what a wyoming cowboy or sheriff would likely carry.

Now, if only Mr. Johnson would say what model!!! I guess I'll have to keep reading. :)

Speculation on what a country sheriff in wyoming would carry?

On the Longmire TV series, Season 4, I think it was episode 9, could have been 8. Henry Standing Bear, Walt's friend played by Lou Diamond Phillips, uses what is almost unmistakably a Case amber bone 6318 medium stockman to dig a bullet out of himself soon after he was shot. The scene gives a pretty good view of the knife.
