Look what I got today

I would think bubble wrap inside the box to have outward pressure to prevent crush via air cushion is the ticket. Leave the outside box as designed.
That certainly will help-when these boxes are crushed the ends pop open. I would tape the ends and flat also. Actually I fill the box, tape the ends in 2 directions, tape the flap, then wrap tape lengthwise once and width wise 3 times. There is no way it opens unintentionally.Tape is pretty cheap compared to the knives.

I usually put my item to be shipped into a ziplock bag to shield against potential exposure to the elements. Then, I use bubble wrap to protect against crushing, and also to immobilize the item within the box. Without bubblewrap, I'm imagining that out of the thousands of packages being processed, that some unscrupulous postal worker will select mine, give it a speculative shake while wondering if it might not be worthwhile to take an innocent peek at what treasure may lie within. Nah, I'm not obsessive compulsive; I'm paranoid O.C.

I’ve had really good business with SK Blades. Good packaging. Bucks QC on that smokejumper, is however another story. Two of the four Smokejumpers had issues, but Stephen was very quick to remedy the problem.

skblades skblades is a member here at BF, have you contacted them about your packaging issue. I would like to hear a response from them if they choose to do so.
Thanks for tagging me here. Sorry to hear about the package damage. Even though I would attribute a lot of the damage you experienced to USPS, it does give me an opportunity to re look at our packaging procedures here. Never hurts to re-evaluate!

There was a guy and his (ex)wife going around screwing people on Striders recently (Tony Stompanato and Kimberly Reed), that's how his (empty) boxes show up too. Before I read your post I was thinking they just got another one.. (I got my money back from them, dipshits didn't realize that the PO weighs Flat Rate boxes too and 3oz is the weight of just the box.)

Thank you for your care.
