I am trying to find a 4- 4 1/2" large folder for my next EDC trying to stay under 200.00 looked at Kizer, Cold Steel Recon 1 and a few others what have you guys seen or carry in that range.
If you're willing to stretch your budget another $20, the ZT 0452CF is an awesome knife. That and the original 0454 are the only 4" ones that make it into my EDC rotation.
I second the 0452cf. A little intimidating to people (although if you want a 4"EDC you just have to deal with that), and after you get used to the technique to flip it right it flies out every time. I don't have the Benchmade Crooked River or 710 but by the looks of them I would recommend them too.
Im waiting for the Tops BOB folder to come out. They said it should be out by Blade. I just really hope they price the thing under $200.
4.5" of folding 1095 goodness:
I can recommend a bunch that I have.
BM 710-1401....M390 amazingness for $169!
ZT 452 mine is CF, but I think it comes in G10 to keep under budget.
Spydie Military.....just wow!! Millie is the bottom blade in last pic.
Joe
Couple pics......cause they're always good!!
Oh, almost forgot about the Steel Will Gekko 1500 and, particularly 1505. Very, very good fit and finish, beautiful knives, comfortable in extended use, good cutting geometry and much less tacticool-scary than most other options with a 4" blade.
Hogue EX-01 4" version. Great button-lock folder. It is machined so well that it does not use washers. The handle is layered G-10, the layers melt into each other forming unique patterns. You can find them for around $185 if you look hard.
You could try any Emerson super model, check the exchange here for one in your price point.
CRKT BT-70 is a 4" blade in a cool knife and you'll have some leftover cash for something else as well.
Happy hunting.
I will also recommend the Benchmade 710. Just a tad under 4" but really close. I've only had it a short while but this is a beautiful knife. Very well made and could stand some abuse if needed.
If I want 4 inches of blade on an EDC folder, I usually go with a CS Large Voyager. I've got both the tanto and the drop/clip point versions, in both plain edge and part serrated. This one sees the most rotation because it has a slimmer profile in the pocket:
And for $200, give or take, you can get 3 or 4 of these, now available in CPM BDS-1! Just a thought...
