Looking for a 3"ish EDC

I have it narrowed down to three knives. First one is a ZT0566CF with M390. I own a ZT0562CF and love it so its little brother would be a good choice. Second is a Lion Steel SR2A. The one piece milled aluminum body speaks to me. Get it in black with a black blade and it looks awesome. Thirdly is a Mini Griptilian. The new one with G10 scales and CPM 20CV steel. One day I'm leaning towards the ZT, the next the Lion Steel and then I find the new Mini Grip and I'm leaning that way.

Anybody owned at least two of the three and can attest to how they are?

Thanks,

I have owned ALL 3.

The 0566 is heavy for it's size and has the largest blade of the 3. For HARD USE it would be my top pick. But it's an assisted opener and I generally prefer manual flippers. It's also pretty expensive for it's lack of titanium.

The SR2A is by far the most elegant of all three knives. Lionsteel fit/finish is awesome. The anodization tends to scratch pretty easily so it won't stay pretty too long. It's also the least easily deployed of the 3. The blade shape it also the least generic with it's large belly. But I found the tip lacking pointiness which I tend not to prefer.

The Mini grip comes in so many flavors I'd recommend a Ritter if you can find one or a 555HG. I generally find the handle to be a bit too small for my medium sized hands. But there are lots of aftermarket grip options to fix that issue.

Of all three, I've sold the 0566 and SR2A. So I guess that makes the mini grip the winner...

I'm in the same situation. I want something slightly smaller than my 0562CF. I bought a new Viper Knives Vox design Kyomi that's going back to the retailer tomorrow or Saturday because there's a big gauge on the titanium frame in front of the pivot. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread because I'm interested in the feedback it will generate.

Couple others to consider that are all winners in my book:

Spyderco Sage 1/2/3 depending on what you prefer

Kizer Gemini & 3404

The Ritter mini grip with the plastic handles and m390 steel is a nice and is well priced.

I've owned all three.. the zt was gone in less than a week, due to weight, size, etc.. the sr2a I had for a bit and traded it away regrettably.. I had the black on black.. beautiful knife.. I want another.. the only thing that was a big turn off was disassembly of the knife.. being a one piece scale, it was a nightmare getting the blade and washers to slide back in.. other than that, a true unique beauty..
And mini grips.... well I have almost 20 so I think that speaks for itself!!

OP I sent you a PM

The only one of those knives which have ever interested me is the Griptilian. Got an S30V model in full size. Love it! The ergonomics are spectacular, and the knife is a wicked, mean cutter.

I maybe in the minority, but I tend to carry 2 knives. Usually a 0562cf or CRK clipped to my pocket, but I always have a mini grip dropped in my pocket for a beater. It's light and takes up minimal pocket space and even less with the clip removed. I have a large grip and several minis, but I find the mini almost perfect for my needs and I don't worry about scratching, chipping, or breaking it. It just screams use me. Now I'm contemplating if I should get one of the ritters in m390 now. I think I have a problem.

The new mini Grip and leave it stock.

Grab a Ritter mini Grip later on and put that one in custom scales.

I am apparently in the minority here, but I never really cared for my mini grip. Partly because it just feels like an inexpensive knife, and partly because the grip never felt right in my hand. I naturally wanted to put my index finger forward of the pivot, as if there was a choil there. I eventually did one day while not paying attention, and cut myself pretty well. I considered getting a full size grip and adding aftermarket scales, but when I added up the cost, there are much nicer knives in that price range.

I really liked my 0566, and it is the only knife I have lost. It was my work knife and something must have snagged it while either climbing a utility pole or pulling a line through the woods. I went looking for it a couple days later but never found it. I'll definitely get another one at some point, but I had some others I wanted to try first. For me the weight is not too much, and adds to the quality feel. Mine had a light enough detent that it was only an ok flipper de-asssisted, but I actually warmed up to it in assisted mode. I have wondered if the M390 versions have ZT's stronger detents.

I have the 0562cf and it is fantastic, but just a little too large for me. I was really hoping ZT would do a 3" version this year, but obviously that did not happen. That combined with Hinderer prices coming down, I decided to pick up a 3" xm-18 wharnie. Given the combination of size and features, it is my current favorite. I'll definitely add a 3" slicer or spanto version when I find one available.

I like the Lion Steel too, but the lack of point and aluminum body ( as previously stated) shut me down on that purchase. Maybe not your style , but the DPX Hest folder is 3" and I use the heck out of it at work. Took the roto-lock off though.

If you can wait, coming out this yr sometime is the ZT 0450CF. Looks super sweet with the whole thing blacked out and the green barrel spacers.if you watch the ZT shot show vid its at the end.

My daily carry is a 566 BW Elmax, it really holds an edge after all I put it thru, it is heavy but if you carry a 562 then weight is not an issue, the only knives I own that are about 3", is the 566 and the benchmade 940-1 CF, just ordered a DPx triple black folder too, I would go for the 566, its a folder for "heavy use" out of the 3, I own a Grip, but it just doesn't compare to my 566, it replaced my Hinderer Xm 18

The 0566 is really an awesome knife. It is slightly smaller than the 0562 and feels great in the hand. I have the 0566CFM390 and it awesome. I am carrying it right now and barely feel the thing in my pocket.

The weight to me is not that bad because it carries so slim and snug. Feels nice and solid in the hand too.

Just get over the fact it has no Ti and you will realize what an awesome knife it is. Get one!
