Looking for a 9-10" chopper

Thanks Ivan 51. I am going back into full time knife making in the next month or so.
so if you ever want one just let me know. My turn around time will be pretty quick I believe.

Bryan

Awesome Bryan. I've been thinking about something else.

Here are some pics of the knife I am in the process of making for dbltap. It is made of 5160 that is 1/4" thick and has a blade length of 10".

Getting hot in the forge:

The old homegrown power hammer (I didn't build it):

Forged to shape:

Rough ground:

Heat treated and some chopping to test the edge. I test it first with a 2x4, then on to dry eucalyptus, then finally seasoned osage orange. If the edge holds up to osage, then I figure I am good to go. The edge was good:

Finish ground and ready for an acid dip:

Acid dipped and that is where it stands tonight:

Thanks for looking.

The Browning Barker Crowell Competition Chopper is very nice, chops very well and throws sparks really well. I believe it would be a good all purpose knife.

Fred, I thought hard about the Browning knife. The sharpish spine near the tip is what kept me away since I will baton a lot with it. Didnt want it to chew up my baton each time I smacked it. It's a great looking knife though.

Honestly, unless you're going to baton a mountain of wood I wouldn't worry too much about chewing up your baton.

I was thinking that. I baton a lot, and I have never had an issue with a baton I use. Even if one would break, you're likely in a spot where there is a lot of wood, otherwise you probably wouldn't be batoning in the first place. :p

I've even batoned double-edged machetes without ruining my baton. It takes a little more concentration in terms of how I land the blows, but I still get the job done just fine.

Here is the chopper all finished up. I just need to make a sheath for it now. This thing is a beast and ready to do some serious work. Hope you all like it.

Bark River Grasso Bolo II

Ooops... I didn't make it all the way through the thread. Looks like the op went custom.

I received the blade from M. Griffin and it is just fantastic. His leather work is on par with some of the best around. I will post a proper review in a few days, but needless to say I highly recommend his work to any looking for a great chopper. Pictures to follow in a few days. Thanks again brother for a sweet chopper.

Really glad you like it. Can't wait to see some pics of it hard at work.
