Looking for a a high quality fishing/fillet knife

I use a Rapala also. It seems to stay very sharp.

Yeah me to, I don't know Stingray, maybe you gotta bad one.

I don't think its anything special, but it works.

The KOA is one I have not tried but KOA knives are top notch and I am going to try one of their fillet knives soon..

BTW, Get you a yellow EdgeMaker pro sharpener for 20.00 and you will never have a dull fillet knife again.

If he likes a folding fillet knife get him a texas toothpick style-there are various handles to choose from or one of the laquoes knives-I know I'm spelling it wrong but they are similiar to a toothpick pattern only I think they are French knives. I personaly love this design for fish duty. But I must admit those BRKT Canadian Sportsman's knives look fantastic. I like that helle cork handled one as well.

Diamond Dog - I believe you are referring to an Opinel folding fillet knife. An excellent choice! I also like my Rapalas. The Rapala's are cheap enough for you to afford a couple of different sizes. Get him a little 4" knife + the standard 6" one. I find that the 4" knife is awesome for yellow perch, crappie and bluegill. The larger knife is good for walleye and pike. The 9" is need for very large salmon or marine fish. Even though they are cheap, a complete set of fillet sizes in each size, one of those little crock stick fixed sharpeners and a nice cutting board would be an awesome gift!

You guys are going to laugh at me for saying this but...........

My sister once gave me a cutco filet knife and I loved the thing. It had a fish gripper on the sheath as well as a sharpening stone on the sheath for touching up the blade and hooks. The sheath also had a notch in it so you could cut line without ever taking the knife out. The handle felt like some sort of rubber and was VERY comfortable.

It carried well on my belt and worked great.

The Cutco 's are excellent knives. One friend has one of their hunting knives and my son has used their chefs knives. They are both impressed with their performance.
