HELLO! I am new to busse knives sooooo....looking for some advice. Looking for a good camp/hiking/survival knife. Thinking that the blade needs to be
5-7" range. It will be used hard(I've heard busse can take almost anything):). I was looking at some skinny ashes, but i dunno if the blade 3/16 is thick enough.....any advice would be nice...THANKS!

3/16" is enough! Unless you plan on hacking through brick walls often...

Seriously, the Skinny ASH-1 is a great, possibly almost perfect, camp knife.

If you want something a bit heavier and longer (8") though, if you're into chopping a lot, then the NMSFNO might fit as well...

get the Skinny while you can at the company store.(I'm on the edge to get another, just to be on the safe side...:D)
(the SFNO LE another top - diff price, though)
...as for what can the Skinny handle , just check out Noss's "test"...

Definitely the Skinny ASH.

I've no pictures where I am, but I have treated a Skinny ASH very poorly ... and it simply laughed at me.

It will do all you need. Go to the Busse Company Store and get one now ... it's the cheapest you'll ever see it.

yeah, the skinny is good. it can't chop that well, but you can always baton with it

It is a little light for chopping ... but you can use an axe, a hatchet, or a really big chopper for that purpose. Assuming you don't like to baton (which the skinny ASH does just fine).

I am a little odd compared to most. I've been known to use an FFBM as a camp knife.

In my opinion, the finest all-around knife from Jerry is the SH-e in all its flavors. I am particularly fond of the ZTSH version. A close second is the Uncle/Mister MoFo/MoJo series. If you like recurves, you may prefer them to the SHs.

Can't chop with a Skinny ASH??? C'mon guys. We've had vids of people hackin and choppin with a Hell Razor. Not that different - and better to baton with. (Altho I really really really love the lines of the Hell Razor.)

Recently I took my Satin Jack Tac on a backpacking trip. It did everything I asked. It is 6" about .20 thick.

A good reference site for you is www.bussecollector.com.

Good luck! There really are no wrong choices when it comes to INFI!

actually the HR has a slightly more forward balance and more overall weight, making it a better chopper than the skinny

Maybe a 3B2? (Not posting this because I have one in the exchange) Just one of the many possibilities.

I have a few different ASH1's, and one of them is the 2007 special editions. It is just like the skinny ASH. I would deffinitly say that this would be a great choice. Not the best for chopping, but a great knife.

imo a skinny ash is hard to beat in all around uses.
a great chopper, nope...but, it can chop.

there is always some compromise, if you load a chopper, imo it becomes too much for general hiking/camping uses.

i have a skinny ash, and to me, i could not be happier with it....jmho

And a 3B2 is one very nice possibility :)
