Looking for a decent backpack

I like having a pack thats modular but I didnt want something that sticks out---I wanted something I could carry around town but also take it in the woods---not a fan of camo at all--I didnt really want tactical black, od or khaki----they stand out too much to me---I love the look of foliage green---I did try on a 5.11 rush 24 and loved it and considered getting one in one of the aforementioned colors because I liked the pack so much----then I found the pack of all packs (to me anyway)---Spec OPS T.H.E. (tactical holds everything) pack in foliage green and it is made in the US---And the best part is they just marked the foliage green down so I got it for a hundred bucks. Now I believe they are all marked down to that---The pack is amazing. Its tough as nails, looks good and the inside is a bright yellow so your gear contrasts against it quite nicely. The only issue I have is that the front 2 pockets do not have any sort of organization (pockets, sleeves, etc...) but I keep all my gear separated in pouches/bags so its not that big of a deal to me. You will not regret buying this pack---

This Post could cost me money.
I am not unhappy with my 5.11 setup, but Made In the USA!, free shipping and a short combat sheath add on for the beast? HMMMM whats a guy to do?

Work more OT I guess.

Spec ops does good work.
i used to have a Condor Tactical 3 day pack with removeable kit bag and it was pretty nice, too -- traded it for some other gear when I was switching over to waxed canvas.

Anything from 5.11s rush series will keep you happy unless you're some kind of gearsnob that expect everything to withstand a nuclear blast.

I have the rush24 and -72 and i absolutely love them. Quality, and organization is top notch. My next pack is gonna be a moab 10 as an edc pack and to attatch to my other packs if i want to cary aditional crap.

Just make sure you get the 2nd gen. They have some features that you'll miss on the 1st gen.

This is just my thoughts on the subject if you want to spend that much on a pack why buy something that will be slightly comfortable for the same money you could get something from Osprey or Gregory that would last a life time and be FARRRR more comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. If you want something that you can abuse to no end I would look at Camelbak and Tactical Taylor both companies make great packs that are made in America.

As you can tell not the biggest fan of Maxped or 5.11 I think they put toughness above comfort and on a pack to me that is about as backwards as you can be.

I have a 5.11 Rush 72, and as far as comfort I think it works great. Some guy on Youtube did a review comparing that and one of the equivalent Maxped packs, and it won out for having a more appropriate torso length. As far as amount of stuff it can hold, it will hold everything I need and then some. The Fieldline packs at Walmart are a direct copy, so if you want to get one on the cheap that is the way to go. ThePointyEnd has been using his for about eight months or so now and he seems to love his, and I got one for the boy that he is quite fond of.

The Fieldline packs are $25 here. I thought about getting one but wasn't sure if it'd be up for hard use.

Actually the recommendation for Tactical Tailor led me to something really close to what I'm looking for.

http://www.tacticaltailor.com/urbanoperatorpack.aspx

Made in USA, and it's priced for those of us who don't own a new Mercedes and vacation house in Hawaii.

I've owned a TT MAV with the X Harness for a few years and I really like it. Got modular pouches set up for either AR15 or AK47 for it.

I Like the look of that Kelty, alot, but I gotta say I think the Kelty Redwing is a better designed pack. Its not tactical though so maybe less durable ?

Perhaps it is, not sure. The MAP was designed for the SEALS.

Because of all the silly mall ninja and couch commando junk on the market these days, the term "tactical" has really lost its original meaning.

The Map is 500 denier nylon with 1000d reinforcements, the Redwing is 420d nylon with 450 d nylon reinforcements. So yeah the Map will be noticeably tougher.

To be sure. If it has "tactical" or "covert" in the name or description, you can bet its for people who are not in the know of what is tactical and what isn't. Because the real tactical shit comes from everyday stuff that is modified or enhanced then used for a tactical purpose, and they don't have the word tactical in it. Otherwise, every stinking piece of military gear would have those descriptors in its nomenclature. Take for instance the spoon inside the MRE meals. Nowhere inside the military is it called a tactical spoon, but businesses would have you believe that since it comes in a MRE is has some sort of tactical application when really its just a goddamn spoon for eating with. I've actually heard some people refer to those spoons as "tactical utensils/spoons."

I like the Osprey packs. May be my next weekend pack. I own packs by Gregory, Kelty, L.L. Bean, Camelbak, Maxpedition, Spec-Ops, Haglofs, Fieldline, Columbia. Different horses for different courses.

I thought forty was a steal. $25 is whipped cream on top.

Tactical is all about using what's on hand and immediately available to assist with whatever tactics you need to engage in. Another term for tactical is field expedient.

As far as Fieldline vs 5.11. I was gifted a Fieldline the size of the Rush 12, it is a nice bag, but a dead nuts copy. Definitely lighter construction, it rides in the truck as a BOB. I had to go get a real deal Rush 12 after that, and could not be more pleased for a day pack. Very comfortable and the compression straps let you cinch it down pretty flat to meet the load.

I was just texting with Derek about this. Good to know.
