Looking for a decent backpack

Another advocate for the rush series. The 24 is pretty good sized, I opted for black. It isnt so "tactical" as to draw attention if your worried about it. I have used it at school and have had no issues and it carries weight well. There are also a ton of different pouches and accessories if you want to add stuff. I may end up getting a 72 in the future!

I have one of the older Fieldline backpacks from Walmart. I used it for hiking for years, then the wife used it as a diaper bag for about a year and I now use it as a bag for my truck. I have broken one thread on the backpack the entire time. Granted, the most I have had in it is 20-25 pounds (?) at a time but it is one of the best gear purchases that I have made.

I also have a Condor pack that I got in a trade that I have really overloaded and abused and it is still holding strong. Im pretty sure that it is the same backpack being sold as "voodoo" something or other on Cheaper then dirt now. It is the bag I always take on my fourwheeler rides ( very aggressive riding with jumps) with a full load everytime. No issues whatsoever.

I'll say this for 5.11 - their product is awesome and so is their customer service. I got a MOAB6 that had one of the buckles on backwards - they sent me another bag after I returns the original and they included a water bottle holder gratis.

I got an EMT red and black Rush 24 for $50 off their site when they had a closeout. A few weeks later the stitching came loose on a seam - again no questions asked and since they didnt make it anymore in EMT colors they gave me my choice - I chose black simply coz I like it

Ill purchase more from them when the time comes.

Tactical tailor makes all kinds of good stuff and their three dap + is a prime choice for a bob in my opinion.

I just realized Dubz was questioning the 3 day ability of the MAP3500. I've done a summer 3 day with it, not too hard. It'll hold a surprising amount of kit. I need to start using mine again.

I figured it would, as it's quite roomy, but have never done it. Yes you do, traitor. :D

I have a Kelty 3600 cu. inch pack. Weekend trip is easy with it. Heck, that pack got me around the British Isles for almost two weeks. Granted, I didn't have to pack shelter, but I had fair deal of stuff.

My TT Urban Operator pack (ranger green) arrived last week.

I really like it. It is simple, just the right size I was looking for and seems very rugged. The hidden laptop compartment is perfect for keeping an atlas or maps of various sizes and water just rolls off it.

Another nod for condor. .I bought their 3 day assault pack and have been very happy. ..a little heavier than i wanted but ridiculously comfortable and well designed. . look it up on YouTube. Haven't had it long enough to comment on durability but it appears to be well made

I've got a crap ton of packs by Osprey, Gregory, Vaude, Lafuma, Kelty, ALICE, Maxped, North Face....etc, etc. Lots of miles on all of them. I don't know if you have your heart set on a tactical rig but for three days out, you'll not find (for the money) a more comfortable or feature laden pack than a Kelty Redwing. My wife and I just picked up our second pair of Redwings as our 14 year old ones are starting to show some wear.

I have that same one it is a comfortable pack and I can get hammock and all in it as long as you don't need a ton of clothes.

Mystery Ranch 3DAP

You will hate the price,

You will love the Pack,

You will not need another one,

Can't go wrong with TT either,

Ditto. I got rid of my larger rucks, because of this pack. Now all I have is a few Becker patrol packs, the 3DAP Mystery Ranch and a Kelty MAP3500. I just recently learned of the Mystery Ranch ASAP, little smaller than the 3DAP.

Get yourself a good ol' fashioned ALICE pack. You can probably pick one up for about $50with the frame included. You will not be disappointed. I still carry this over the new issues ones. If the large one is too much for you, the small is a viable option. I have carried upwards of 120lbs in these and have had no issues with equipment failure. Sure, it's not super sexy like the new MOLLE ones, but it was issued for over 40 years.

Though I've never used their packs, GORUCK makes some seriously tough stuff.

I found them when searching for a better hat believe it or not... I've had their GRTac hat on my noggin for over a year and it still looks brand new.

My wife bought me one of their "Man Ties" last year too lol, haven't had much cause to wear it yet.

US Made.

Just stumbled on this thread. I've had my Urban Operator for a while now and really like it, I doubt you'll be disappointed. American made pack with 1000 denier Cordura for under $100.

The shoulder straps are a lot more comfortable than they may look and it can comfortably carry a pretty decent amount of weight. Not like an internal frame pack mind you, but more than adequate for the size (and better than the Maxpedition I used to own).

I've also found the laptop sleeve handy for papers, maps, or even a folded set of clothes.
