Looking for a Fighting Bowie

All this talk of fighting bowies has lead me to call Les Robertson and pull the trigger on that Dean El Diablo. Thanks guy's for helping me spend money at X mas time. Les is a great guy and said I should get it day after X mas. Happy holidays to all. jp

You got a great fighter at a very good price.

Are subhilt fighters considered bowies?

I would more ofter than not call them fighters, however we could start a whole thread on just the definition of a bowie. The below is one early American's definition of a Bowie. Can't remember where I read it. But very fitting though.

It was said that "a Bowie had to be sharp enough to use as a razor, heavy enough to use as a hatchet, long enough to use as a sword and broad enough to use as a paddle".

Congrats on the ElDiablo - the lines on that piece approach perfection. Dealing with Les is always good.

I was at Spirit of Steel a few years back when Harvey had his very first El Diablo - also a comparatively plain in stag and carbon. I was struck by just how RIGHT the lines were for a fighter. He has since done many a fancier version with some spectacular damascus and ivory and such. But I still kind of gravitate toward the plain and purposeful versions where the great lines stand on their own merit without the assistance of any embellishment.

Merry Christmas!

thanks for the pics roger. even though i like fancy blades i always carry and seem to gravitate to more plain knives where the blade speaks for itself. I read some where were Atila the Huns sword was made of the finest blade he could find with a very plain handle. A true warriors blade. He could of had anything he wanted. Don't get the idea I don't like fancy blade 's I can just also apreciate as long as the steel is high quality and the lines are good a more simpler piece especialy to carry. I travel alot and can not take a pistol most times. So I do carry larger knives than most. On hunting trips I will carry a bowie in the 9 inch range a 3 inch caper and a multi tool. Some of my hunting partners think I am crazy but if I ever need a big knife I have got one and do not find myself trying to use a small knife for big knife jobs. And on a defensive nature a big knife is always better than a small one
happy holidays jp

Thanks for a very fair and informative response.

Excellent view of the other 'Bowies' in the thread.
Thanks for sharing all.

This knife has been shown here before but it is my idea of the perfect fighting bowie. I have a crossada by dozier and the grinds are great but it can't compare to the classic fighting bowie's pictured here

I've got to come back and see this again after noticing it in your avatar . One of the most classic and beautiful knives i've seen. Timeless.

David thanks for the kind words about the bowie. Bagwell says as far as he can recall it is the only all damascus and stag Hell's Belle he has done.
