Looking for a fixed blade fighting knife for about $200 or less.

Not sure if it's been said, but definitely take a look at Fox Knives Karambits. They make them in hawkbill and leaf shaped designs.

Has anybody said "Smatchet"? :D

Okay. Back on track.

I don't know how you feel about Boker, but the Boker Plus Striker:

fits your criteria. The blade may be a little short (6 3/8"), but the price is very reasonable.

how about a glock knife. I have no experience with one but the price makes me think it is worth a try

Blackjack 1-5, or 1-7 are both designed as fighters, made of A2 tool steel, convex ground, and made very well. For what you describe the 1-7 ( model 1-7 inches) is the one I'd choose. I have one in fact. It's made lighter than one would ideally want for batonning and heavy use. That is on purpose as it's designed to be fast. It's a classic and made from a Randall original design but a bit under $200 instead of $600 with 5 year wait. A2 is tougher, and more wear resistant, and even a bit more corrosion resistant than Randall's O-1 Original, which is still extremely nice.

Blackjack also has several other designs to consider like the HALO, and mod. 125.

Another direction to take would be the Dozier New York Special, or Arkansas Tooth pick. A bit above $200 out of the A.G.Russell catalog ( A contributing dealer and icon of the knife industry for longer than many here have been alive). If in stock these knives have concealment sheaths, right or left hand, are Dozier and D2 ( don't need to say more). They aren't shipped with a sharpened false edge but if you want to do it it would not be difficult.

The Spyderco Street Bowie is a nice knife though I don't care for the sheath design. The knives itself are great. The Street Bowie at 5 inches is really a very compact design. The Street beat is a 3.5 inch blade but very capable, both are VG10, V grind, in your price range, and very well made, high quality stainless steel

Good luck

Joe

In 2014 Spyderco is coming out with the Pygmy Warrior with a 4.6" blade of CTS-BD1 stainless steel and G-10 scales:

Use the money for training, or perhaps an attorney.

This made me laugh, because it's true!

So much goes into the "before" and "after" of any violent encounter, and so many people forget that.

I don't think we have to worry about that, though. I think I remember the OP saying that this was just a "for pretty" purchase.

Keep an eye on the for sale by maker fixed blade forums. Sometimes some really nice ones pop up in that range.

Look for a used gryphon m30a1. Terzoula design, very well thought out. The m10 is nice too, but it might be too small for you.

How about the Blackwater Ursa? Serrated on top, straight edge on bottom. In your price range, too.

They also have the "Grizzly" model, which would fit the bill, but the Ursa just looks way cool.

Ever thought about a Spyderco Temperance 2? Since you'll never get into a knife fight, at least this design could get some use in the kitchen.

Check out the zero tolerance 0170, its an ideal combat knife but also works well for survival/utility. I carry one in my boot every day.
