Looking for a Flashlight. Any Recommendations?

I have a SureFire E1L Outdoorsman that I absolutely love.

It's all of the criteria you list - bright, small, rugged. I love the E2L as well, but it's slightly less compact.

SureFire lights are expensive, but, in my opinion, they can't be beat.

Cool, I will totally look into Surefire, just the thing I was looking for. I good high quality light, that isn't a cheapo off the shelf walmart buy...

Thanks! Any other suggestions to keep my eye out for? I was wondering if those 123a batteries are hard to find locally?

CR123A batteries are sometimes hard to find locally. They have them in my hometown WalMart in the electronics section. The thing is, they are more expensive at WalMart rather than just ordering a box directly from SureFire - SureFire has a relatively good price on their batteries.

I stick with the SureFire brand battery and order a couple boxes at a time. They last a surprisingly long time and have a shelf life of over 10 years, which is way better than normal batteries if you're going to tuck them away for when SHTF.

IMO the best one right now is the LumaPower IncenDio V3 with the Cree XP-GR5 bulb they advertise it at 370 Lumens. It's very small and built tough, you can find them for around $50

You should seriously consider a headlamp. You can hold it in your hand if you prefer but the ability to go "hands free" is invaluable in the woods.

I carry a very small Fenix E01 in my pocket all the time, but I carry a small, light, LED headlamp in my pack. It's one of my favorite pieces of kit.

Here's mine... although it's an older model that's not as colorful.

Good idea with the headlamp. I will pick one of these up as well... Being able to use two hands is very useful.

The first time I used it was below freezing trying to get some poles attached under the rain fly of a tent I'd never used before. (I was helping someone with their tent... I always test and become familiar with my gear before I go out. ;))

It was pitch black and I had this "eureka" moment when I realized I had both hands available and everywhere I looked was lit!

I've never looked back!

I really depends on what you are using your flashlight for?

I have a surefire headlamp and flashlight so they run off the same type batteries. If you don't go that route I would look at a pelican flashlight that runs off AA batteries and make sure all your electronics run on the same type of battery system.

A great place to buy CR123 batteries is Batteryjunction.com. You can get top of the line batteries for a fraction of the price that you would in a store, they have a shelf life of 10 years so it's way cheaper to buy them in bulk also.

Fenix makes some really great lights for a fraction of the price of Surefire. One of their best ones are the TK-11 or the brand new one the TK-15. You can beat the hell out of these lights and they'll keep on going.

HDS Systems Ra Clicky 170 Tactical and Surefire Minimus headlamp. Bases covered. Forever.

333rm, I just bought my first Fenix last week from Howe's Knife Shop when I ordered my Junglas. I, uh "we", have about 15 or 16 Surefire models and this TA-20 was like you said, a fraction of the cost. The TA-20 throws a nice halo light with the beam centered in the middle. Very happy with this, & it was around $75.00, pretty good deal.
Be safe.

I have an energizer hard-case as well as a petzl tekka headlamp.
+1 on the headlamp recommnedation.
The hard-case flashlight lives up to its name.

For small light use I have a Minimag (2xAA) with LED bulb conversion - good battery life, plenty bright, rugged.

I like that it takes AA Batteries... I could find those any where... If SHTF....

I EDC a Streamlight Micro stream 1 AAA battery , now your not going to light up the world with it but for a small pocket flashlight it does the trick and I find myself using it more so than I thought, plus I build PSK's around 'em Great LED Flashlight & tough
