Looking for a Flashlight. Any Recommendations?

I EDC a Streamlight Micro stream 1 AAA battery , now your not going to light up the world with it but for a small pocket flashlight it does the trick and I find myself using it more so than I thought, plus I build PSK's around 'em Great LED Flashlight & tough

+ 1 on the microstream
That was my previous edc cuz i like how small it was, still puts out a great amount of light for a AAA. I think it puts out about 20 lumens which is plenty bright for a lot of tasks

i just want to say that in my mind 4sevens and fenix make some of the best lights out there. there quality is equal if not excelling surefire

333rm, I just bought my first Fenix last week from Howe's Knife Shop when I ordered my Junglas. I, uh "we", have about 15 or 16 Surefire models and this TA-20 was like you said, a fraction of the cost. The TA-20 throws a nice halo light with the beam centered in the middle. Very happy with this, & it was around $75.00, pretty good deal.
Be safe.

That's great to hear! The TA-20 is a great light and that ring makes changing settings super easy. I saw the 20 and 11 go through a torture test on a review and I after that I was pretty sold on their durability.

In the low light handgun class I took I watched a guy toss his 3rd Fenix in the trash. It was some 250 lumen light and by the end of the class it was 5 lumen. He said he was done with them. For the price of these “newer” brands, I can’t find a reason not to buy Streamlight. I was a Surefire fanboy for a long time but for the price difference I’ve had zero issues with Streamlight products.

TTD got me all hopped up on the Microstream sacraments. They are great little lights. I’ve learned not everything has to be 150 lumens+. For $16 they’re hard to beat for a single AAA light. There used to be a guy on the E-buy site that sold them in a 12 pack for like $9. Shoulda bought a case. :D

I have used all of the above.

4 Sevens Quark and Maelstrom series are in my opinion the best production lights on the market, hands down.

They are cheaper than Surefire, but have much newer, state of the art emitters. I have a dozen Surefire's and after i bought a 4Sevens, I haven't looked back.

My Quark Mini cr123 is like an inch and a half long keychain light, and its over twice as bright as a surefire backup.

Thanks for all the replies!!! You have given me some great recommendations to look into... I'll be sure to post pics and such of what I end up choosing.

I carry a Fenix 2AA (LD10 I think) light in my pack along with a red filter. I see this 2AA Fenix as an evolved relative of the trusy old Mini Maglites.

I had a Surefire E2L Outdoorsman and sold it...the Fenix is relatively cheap, just as well built as I can see and runs on common AA batteries...the Surefire ran on CR123s..not so common.

You've gotta go for one of the new surefire models. Here is a link to their page...

Here is the one I bought... for under $70 brand new.

This thing is wicked. 15 Lumens and 45 hours of runtime on low output, and a mind boggling 200 Lumens on high output. The high output is like a spotlight in the dark, it is so bright. 15 Lumens is what I use for just about everything, but if you need to brighten up the night, 200 Lumens in a pocket sized flashlight is just unreal.

I am not a flashlight expert by any means but I've had a very good experience with my Streamlight Stylus Pro. It runs around 6-7 hours on a set of batteries and puts out, I think, 25 lumens constant output. I've also been pleased with my Fenix LD20. I like the different light modes and the batteries will last a very long time on it if you don't use the highest setting. Even if you do use the highest setting, the Fenix should last around 90 minutes to 2 hours. Another light I've found to be quite nice is my Petzl Tikka Plus 2. It puts out a nice light and the economy mode is around 120 hours. I've eyed the Tikka XP 2 but so far haven't decided to spend the money on that one. :) If you're looking for a cheaper solution for a headlamp, check Walmart for the Energizer 6 LED light. It's around $14-15. It won't last nearly as long as the Petzl lights but it puts out a nice beam. I just thought I'd throw in my .02. :) Take care!

You should go to candlepowerforums and do some reading. There are a lot of great threads with in depth reviews and comparisons.

Personally the three lights I use are:

HDS Systems RA Clicky Custom Tactical

Jetbeam Jet I Pro V3 w/Q3-5A and OP an reflector

ARC AAA

They all take different batteries and do different things but I feel they are solid choices.

Good luck in your search!

I have a nitecore defender infinity. Love this thing! It takes 1 AA, which lasts for quite a long time considering. The best part about it is that it has a super bright tactical mode at 145 lms but it can also be programed to another setting anywhere inbetween something like 4 lms to 145 lms. In addition it has a strobe function that is quite easy to get to. I like it because it's small, but it frequently outshines my expectations!

I have a Fenix LD20 and it is AMAZING. Super bright (180 lumens), long battery life, rugged, reliable, and also incredibly waterproof. Buy one and you wont be disapointed.

They are also not that expensive for what you are getting they usually run about 60 bucks.

I got my wife the Streamlight flashlight that is a polymer yellow & uses 4 AA batteries. Streamlight or Surefire are great brands. I own 2 Streamlight's & 1 Surefire that use the CR123 batteries. You can order them on www.amazon.com
PS: I also have 2 Streamlight headlights that use Triple A batteries & a Streamlight LED pen light that uses one size smaller battery than the TRIPLE A.
It is about the size of a pencil & clips to your shirt pocket.

How come you sold the Surefire? Just because of the batteries?

Should have known better than to ask a bunch of gear junkies for a recommendation on a flashlight...

I would stay away from anything made or sold by 4Sevens, he doesn't back up his product. :thumbdn:
