Hey Guys,

I have been itching to grab a new knife for a while now, and it looks like I finally can. I have a few in the 50ish range, so this will be my first jump to something with a heavier price tag. I'm not super hard on my knives, but they do end up our at the lake for relatively light work. The problem I am running into is the offerings in that price range seem pretty broad, and a lot of the reviews I've seen are pretty dated and its hard to tell if they still ring true. I just want a solid all around knife I can rely on, and not have to worry about babying. Preferably plain edge, can't be auto.

If you had to pick one what would you go for? Thanks.

Edit:

Spyderco Para 2.

You don't have to buy expensive to get good knives. Look at Rough Rider and Colt knives. Excellent knives, well made and inexpensive.

I've become a real fan of Zero Tolerance as of late. My hard use work knife is a ZT350st. I believe it sells for about $135.

For $30 over your budget, the ZT 0909 is a beast of a knife. It's what I carry to the cabin. I take it on short walks when a fixed blade is impractical.

Think I'm on the wrong side of the border for ZT. I have a couple Kershaw I like, but ZT lines seem to skyrocket this side.

I would look at:

Spyderco PM2 or Manix 2, Endura 4, Gayle Bradley (original)
Benchmade 710 - Can get it just over $150 on Amazon
Benchmade Griptillian - (many options in this series)
HK Axis - Made by Benchmade

Personally for your use, I would probably go the Endura 4 route. Especially if around a lake wearing shorts. It's pretty light but can hold up to harder use. The FRN handles can seem cheap to some but they are really functional and strong. The only real negative to this knife is it's a lock back style. Fine w/ me but some prefer more modern locking mechanisms.

I was definitely looking at the PM2, and Manix 2 earlier, but I'll have to take a look at the Endura4. Back locks never really bothered me either.

I've heard good things about the Griptillians, but always look pretty plain. The 710 Looks really nice.

710 is AWESOME Spike!! Just awesome! Here's mine.....and I LOVE it!!
Para 2 will do just fine also! Pic of one of mine cause pics are always good!!
