Looking for a folder around the 150 mark?

Just to be different, how about a Cold Steel Ultimate Hunter? Great knife, great handle, great steel, great lock.

Wow! Thanks everyone, more than a few I hadn't really looked at. I'm almost surprised the Para 2 has hung out so long and still seems to be the go to for a lot of people.

Does anyone have any experience with the Cold Steel Recon 1?
(Just saw it drop 30 bucks while I was looking up some of the knives)

Many decent knives out there ~$150.

From what I own I can recommend the Para 2 , H&K 14715, Manix 2

(The Emerson in the photo is above $150)

Also the Military, my favorite knife. So I am very biased on this one.

yes - CS Recon 1 is a great folder, if you dont object to black coating, hollow grind, and tri ad lock which may not be as fun as Axis lock, liner lock, or frame lock to play with.

It's a very solid working knife. Much better cutting geometry than you would think, quite tough, lightweight, exceptionally strong lock and very good steel.

Cons are the G10 is beyond grippy and into out-and-out abrasive, pocket clip comes very tight (you almost have to adjust it) and the lock can be difficult to disengage, particularly when you first get it. Basically, it lacks the fidget factor some other knives in the same price range have.

Great working knife, but for a fun knife I would look towards the Buck 830 Marksman.

Good to know. The Tri-Ad looks deadly, may be a little overkill for what I'd really need, may saddle that firmly in the maybe column.

Second 0450cf....just opened the box today and have to say fantastic fit and finish, lockup about 95% as solid as my sebenza, and tolerances on par. I've held a couple 940s and used to own a pm2--neither compare in fit & finish in my opinion.

I don't own the Recon 1 but do own several Cold Steels. Great bang for the buck, nice edge retention, durable.

Try to check out the ZT0450. I love mine in Ti.

Also, agree with everyone else about the PM2.

native5 is impressive quality, or the lightweight version for less still.
manix2 is very nice and slightly larger
griptillian is very nice but you get a steel upgrade for around the same price with the first two. S30v is an impressive steel and s35vn even more so. I prefer s35vn because it seems to take a finer edge in my experience and it is easier to sharpen, plus according to the specs, it is about 20 percent tougher than s30v. But I just love the ease of sharpening and the razor edge it takes. I can get my s35vn native5 sharper than my vg10 delica. speaking of delica, also a great knife worth considering.
