I love Bowie knives. Always have, always will. But I can't always have a fixed blade with me for obvious reasons. I'm starting to look at folding knives with Bowie style blades. I see the Hinderer XM-18 with the Bowie grind, the Spyderco Slysz, and the Emerson CQC-13. I'd like to stay below $200 but also have a robust tip (I hear sometimes that Bowie blades have very needle thin tips and can break easily). Any suggestions on others I should consider?

Not to detract from the question, but isn't a "Bowie Knife" always a fixed blade? And aren't Folders that have Bowie styled blades called "Clip Points"?
Or has that changed over the years?

Not necessarily. Like the Hinderer is a true Bowie style blade. A clip point can be less aggressive than what I imagine a Bowie is. If you see a Hinderer Bowie, that's the style I'm looking for. I would not consider the Benchmade 707 sequel with a clip point blade to be a "bowie"

There are a couple Emersons that have bowie style blades, not just the CQC-13.

Never knew/realized that. You sure?

I was sure back in the 1980/90s. Back when I bought my first CS Voyager they were called Clip Points. If I look through Cold Steels catalog archives from 1988 to 2014 I won't see their clip point folders ever called "Bowie". Anyone who is into the original "Bowie Knife" knows they were fixed blades. But I was just wondering if the terminology use had changed,

You could very well be right. I have just always seen that blade style described as a bowie, when I see clip points they are not quite what I'm looking for.

Not exactly a Bowie, but it has some similarities and a robust tip.
Benchmade Vicar

Cold Steel Recon 1 Clip Point has a pretty aggressive blade shape, reminiscent of a number of fixed blade bowies. Benchmade is coming out with the Crooked River, which has a bowie-ish profile.

Here you go. ZT 0452:

That Benchmade may be the winner. But orange??? I can live with it. I was looking for more of an aggressive bowie design but that might be the best of both worlds.

Personally, I dig the orange, but if you don't I bet it can be remedied for not a lot of cash.
