Looking for a good blade, i will specify my needs in the post.

That is ok in theory but where I hike the wood is often to brittle to use as a baton, you get maybe 2 swings and it breaks....believe me I have tried this method !!!

Hahaha! Ok, not having a strong enough baton would definitely put they kibosh on... batoning. Chopping hardwood with a 7" blade is just so ridiculous though, they never have much forward weight so you've gotta swing them like a madman just to make a dent. Having to compensate for the lack of weight by swinging the knife much faster really hurts the accuracy of each chop, and makes it less safe too. Someone over in the busse forum very recently posted about a poorly placed chop glancing off the wood and hitting them in the hand. I've over shot a little bit chopping quite low and hit the ground, put a ding in the edge of my Basic7.

now another question, ive read on scrapyard knives that they make it "micro chip" proof like chips that cant be seen by the naked eye. are bark and river knives free of this so called "micro chipping"

Bark river knives are convexed. It is one of the most easy grinds to maintain. Just regular stropping will keep it like a razor. Ive never heard of chiping being an issue w/ a barkie....

the method just never works ffor me when it comes to bigger diameter logs.
I just have to sit and swing and when I get the blade to cut into the wood (which when your going in at an angle [theres not way you could go straight down] isn't even as deep as the blade is long) I have to do it all over again.

I cant even figure out what youre saying here. Blade doesnt cut as deep as it is long? You expect to make a 7" deep cut?

and I think the baton is more tiring than the knife... no matter how heavy the baton is (if you can find a good one) you still have to swing it hard...
Ok Captain Physics, why dont you wait till they cover the chapter on momentum, then say that.

anyways I don't want to get into a discussion about it, but i just normally find it way easier to chop.
but if it works for other people thats good.

and when i said "big knife" I meant bigger than the bravo 1 (I'll specify this in my post)... still a 7" blade.
it sounds like a ratweiler or rd7 would be perfect.
:D

If you dont want to discuss it then leave it at "i find it easier to chop". Seriously, I dont even know why I'm debating this with some kid who by his own admission is "slow at understanding things". How old are you, 15? I suppose when it sounds like youre talking out your ass its because you are.
Do you even own an RD7 or Ratweiler?

Where would be the best place to get a Bravo-1 online?

I like to start at 1sks.com or someplace with reasonable prices, then use the price range search on google, sometimes you can find good deals tucked away.

eg

bravo-1 $50..$80$

Will search for pages with "bravo-1" with any price between $50 & $80.

You'll have to sift through the results, but I found some Fallkniven sharpening stones I was after for less than 1/2 the usual price, on site's I'd never think of looking at otherwise.

Some great deals can be found on ebay and the knife exchanges, thats for sure, but it sure can take some patience. Got a RAT tak-1 for about $30 on ebay, got my d2 rat7 for $75 shipped off the knifeforums.com exchange. Dunno how long I could wait if I had been actively seeking them at the time, just stumbled upon both of them and couldnt resist.:D

all these sites sell knives that are completely owned by bark river and tool, i dont want a chinese remake blade. also the knife cant be used in anyway i need it be never opened. just newly made like all the other barks normally would be.
im always so paranoid with buying a new knife. i guess you get my point.

I think Micarta and G-10 tie for toughness. I favor Micarta slightly more for its look and feel.
