Looking for a good "pocketable" fixed blade

Scrapivore gets my vote; I regret ever getting rid of mine... I ground down the rear pry bar area on the palm area for comfort as it was quite sharp prior to the mod.

What are the EK&T Companions running?

They are running $84 for the basic scale version, black and I believe orange maybe, plus 7 for shipping. You can also buy upgraded versions of the scales in different colors and carbon fiber

Afternoon/Morning/Day

The catch to my Title is that I work in an office and an stuck in business casual all day so it can't be really bulky. Just looking for something of decent quality but preferably under a $100, I can stretch but not much more than that.

I have tried several pocket fixed blades trying to find one that fits well. I have learned the hard way that I need at least a 3.5" handle and under 7" oal. I also prefer the blade thickness to be on the medium to thinner size.

All the pocket fixed blades I had prior filled the palm well, but left no room for a good four finger grip in use. I picked up the bark River Pro Scalpel II for the extra bit of grip in the handle. Plus, it comes with Elmax and I've enjoyed that steel before.

Good luck with the hunt.

Where do I pick up a sheath like that, does it have to be custom or are these general knife sheaths?

The key to a small fixed blade or any fixed blade for me is the sheath. I mostly do kydex belt carry IWB or OWB. That pocket sheath you are asking about is also one I have, use, and love. They are sold by knives Ship Free. You may not need a new knife. That Eskabar will do nicely in a pocket sheath.

When I have the fixey urge I carry either an Emerson La Griffe or Spartan Blades Enyo, in pocket, and with the sheaths tethered to my belt with gutted 550 cord. Very discreet for the retail office environment I'm in.

Can you explain exactly how you do this?

The Kanetsune Yama seems like it'd work out pretty well, but I've never personally used one and the sheath looks pretty minimal. If you ever happen to get a leather pocket sheath, though, it might be worth checking out.

2.6" blade, 6.7" overall. The handle should be plenty long for a comfortable grip if you don't mind the lack of thickness.

This is how I carry small fixed blades also.

Basically, you run a cord from the tip of the sheath to your belt or beltloop, length is of personal preference, generally just long enough to let the tip of the handle hide below the pocket line. I think credit for the idea goes to Mercop here on the forums, but it might be that he popularized it as the "tac-teather" it allows a fast draw as the cord will catch the sheath as you pull it from your pocket, or in a slow draw, keeps the sheath where you want it. Also has the advantage of keeping the knife higher up in deep pockets, and containing it if the pocket pukes it out.

This isn't today's carry folder, but...

That Super Edge is always on me for two reasons. The first is just that it's super tiny and convenient with great ergonomics. The second is that it's a great compliment to my folders, which with one exception are all plain edge.

When I am casually carrying a smaller fixed blade, I prefer a simple leather blade sleeve (no belt loop), made by myself...and usually carry in back jeans pocket or winter jacket.

I'm really loving the two-pocket sheath shown earlier in this thread. Could keep a small fixed and folder in one sheath. Would keep them together, and add protection for both knife and other pocket items. Plus help spread the weight out, and break up outline. I will have to try to make some variation of it.

While it wasn't created with this function in mind, most of mine actually stay in pocket when the knife is pulled.

Here's a few of mine.

Maybe I am being driven just by the looks and the so called White Steel is a supersteel I had never heard off... but for that price, I would expecto to have at least a pair of micarta, G10 or wood handle slabs. As it sits now, it looks like an unfinished attemp to knifemaking by a newby who took the oldest dullest file in the drawer and started doing stock removal on it...

Bradford Guardian 3 and EK&T Companion

Beautiful blades! I must say I like the Bradford A LOT. However I have the feeling that the price tag on it is not going to like me that much...

EDIT: Just checked. Shy under $160 + $35 for a kydex sheath... Could have been MUCH worse...
