+1 on ST300 in black, i'm fairly certain it will be able to laugh off any task you throw at it.
The black oxide coating on the gerber is great, the one I have was my Sons GI and it took several swims in salt water and just flushed out with fresh water.I just found it last week after it had spent over a year in my rain gutter. When I found it the thing was covered with dry mud all over it.I tapped it on a rock to knock off the dirt, washed and lubed it and no rust.Too me that's worth the extra few bucks.Yeah I left it in my rain gutter.Okay, ST 300 is a good choice, but why in blackUnless you are in a combat zone or a burglar, the only advantage to a black finish I can think of is that it's easier to lose in the dark, which seems to me not a good enough reason to justify the extra cost

Lol,something must have happened and I forgot it was in the rain gutter for over a year until I cleaned it out again. Not the normal place to store a multi tool for sure. After over a year of temps from way over a hundred and down to below zero this year.Plus blinding dust storms, rain and snow the thing was just covered with dry mud and it cleaned up no worse for the hell it went through. As for the uncoated stainless version I have no idea if it would have held up just as well. This was an unintended torture test.Wouldn't uncoated stainless steel have resisted oxidation also? So far, none of my nekkid SS blades or other components have ever rusted under conditions of mud and wet, although I must admit not as extreme as yours.
Rain gutter is an eccentric choice for long term knife storage. May I suggest a hinged box? Works for me.
try checking out the leatherman charge.
Ive used the same leatherman Wave for about 13 years..The first version. Ive used it for everything, and used it hard. I suppose what Ive used it for most is butchering small game. The serrated blade comes in handy for seperating joints.Oh and it goes on every fishing trip.. After all this time the pliers are still solid and tight. No play, the cutters are worn though..Ive cut stuff way to big, like bard wire..Cant say enough good about it really.
