Looking for a high quality EDC with good pocket clip

Hi all,

I've been carrying a large Buck Bantam for the past 5 years or so, and while I've been very impressed with the quality of the knife itself, the pocket clip has finally deformed to the point where it is no longer carry-able in my side pocket. I've put a lot of abuse on this knife, using it for everything from scraping off weld spatter to deburring holes, so I'm not unsurprised at the lifespan, or unhappy for $25.

The pocket clip itself is made from about .035 steel, with a large lightening cut further weakening it. When I attempted to remove it to bend it back into shape, I only succeeded in stripping out the little T6 screws holding it onto the frame.

I was wondering if anyone here had suggestions for a good replacement EDC folder with a sturdy pocket clip. I'm looking for a straight blade (no serrations) with good blade steel, and preferably lockback, made in USA and under $100, although I'd be willing to drop a little more for something of good quality.

I appreciate any input people have, it's difficult to tell the quality just by looking at pictures.

I personally like the wire clips on the Sage series. Super sturdy although only held by one screw. Like how it's super low in the pocket too. Never heard any complaints about the clip.

Hk axis or mini axis

Well.... not their HK - their Griptillian line - yes famous axis- always voted one of the best knovez for the price. And Benchmade has Great customer service - not for problems!

The Spyderco Native 5 would be my suggestion. The Manix 2 is a good knife (mentioned above), but larger I believe. For something less expensive in the Spydie line, the Delica and Endura are always good depending on the size you are comfortable with.

American made lockback at a $100.. anything Spyderco Golden CO Earth made in a size/shape you like.
If doesn't need to be lockback, Griptillians are great knives.
If doens't need a clip or one hand opening, GEC 42 or anything else that catches your eye.
If doesn't need to be USA, Cold Steel Recon CTS-XHP in flavor/size of choice.

Kershaw Blur, Skyline, Leek
Spyderco Native
Buck spitfire
Benchmade mini grip would be my first choice. I like you carried a bantam for years, so long that mine says made in China. When I graduated I got myself and mini grip and noticed the difference in quality and steel. It is well worth the money.

What A Cold Steel Hold Out III Fan Has Got to do.
I will preface this by saying . . . I am only half kidding :

Step one; buy a Cold Steel Hold Out III
Step two; buy a Cold Steel Hold Out I (the reason for the One over the Two will become clear latter).
Step three; mod the clip from the I to the exact shape of the recess in the III knife. Extremely easy and quick to do with a file.
Step four; throw the clip from the III in the trash.

Alternatively you could just carry the Hold Out III in your shirt pocket; works exceedingly well for that (but what are you going to do when you are wearing a coat and want to use your knife quick without letting all the heat out of your coat ?).

anyway the Hold Out III is a super brilliant, super practical, super light . . .
you get the idea . . . I love this knife . . . it is worth all the ridiculous futzzing to change clips !

and the reason for getting the One instead of the Two ?
The One makes a great book-holder-opener (the Two is too short and light for that). :D
