try tadgear in san francisco. tadgear.com

they sell knives, among many other "survival" related items. great stuff, competitive prices.

There's a knife and gun store in Dublin. Dublin Knives and guns. i bought my Stretch Spyderco there. The sell Benchmade and a few others. Prices are on the high side, but they will deal if you ask. A decent place to check stuff out anyhow.

6600 Dublin Blvd, Dublin, CA - (925) 875-0741‎

I don't think you're allowed to have knives in California. We need to find a way to get them out of there before you get in trouble!

thanks! ill be sure to check out tadgear next time im in the city.

They do have a good selection. You'll probably be the only one in the shop when you go. I lived here for a couple years before I knew it was here. The guy that's always there is an older gentleman. If you tell him you like something, but the price is a bit steep, he'll offer 5 or 10% off. Then at the register he always says, we'll call it an even 140 or whatever the price is; he'll round it down to a lower number.

It's a small shop. Then entire left side is knives. The right side is knives and guns.

I used to live in Concord. It's worth the trip on a Saturday morning.

oh ok. sounds good. ill probably stop by some time soon haha. thanks for your help! oh i was also wondering, since you lived in the area, if you have heard of a gun and knife shop in martinez (i saw it online a while back) and also if you ever checked out the flea markets for knives...anything good? or all just CCC? thanks again.

Nope. Never been to the one in Martinez. Never been to the flea markets (except for the one in Concord and I wasn't looking for knives). The Dublin shop is in a nice area and it's right by the freeway. I wouldn't call it the most progressive shop. You might even find some old discontinued models there. Worth a look.

Dublin gun and knife is a great store but the manager Jack doesn't know anything about knives but he will tell you that anyways. If you go there on a Saturday there is a young guy there named Justin who knows a lot about knives and is very helpful. They have some some harder to find knives like REKAT, Mercworx, Tinives, Extrema Ratio and they have a few Striders and a custom Bob Terzuola.

oh wow...not in my price range...but it will be cool to actually get to handle one (striders, rekat...etc.) thanks! im really looking to get my first benchmade or spyderco. maybe a griptillian or endura. not exactly sure yet. this is my first thread and i am pleased with the responses!

The Dublin shop is ok. Justin knows his stuff thou! And the prices are high.
A few other places you should chek out are The Shavers Shop, and EDC Knives, both in Oakland. They are right down the street from eachother. The Guys in EDC know there $h!7. And if they don't have what you are looking for they can tell you wear to go. I can't remeber the owners name but he helped me find two knives that are near extinct. He is a great guy!!
Also look at We Be Knives in SF also. Prices are high there also.

yeah..ive been to we be knives...i was really fresh to knives and bought an overpriced leek. haha. ill check out the ones in oakland...although i rarely go out there. thanks.

All great stores mentioned. Also check out We Be Knives at Pier 39. Nice selection of medium to higher end production knives. Prices are outrageous, but if you ask them if they'll compete with online dealers, you can probably get a knife for about 150% of what you would pay online.

Tad Gear actually has competitive prices for a B&M. You definitely want to go there. They're one of the few places that actually know about knives. Everyone else usually just acts like they know.

Good to know. I've been in that little (and I do mean little) store packed to the teeth with knives a few times. The prices always turned me away. Good to know they'll haggle. Thanks.

Regarding Martinez, about the only thing you'll find there are the little antique shops on main street. I've gotten some really good deals there, but only on used knives, some still new in the box. (Bucks, Case, older brand slipjoints, etc.)

Dublin Knives is worth the trip, but I haven't met Justin. I haven't been in We Be Knives in years, but it was a fun place for knives. Other than that, my main source was the old San Francisco Gun Exchange - when they closed, I slowed way down on the knife buying.

EDITED TO ADD: you might also try Jackson Arms in South San Francisco - at one time they had a decent little selection of knives. We moved to Concord in 2006, so I don't know what they may have now.

thx - cpr
