Looking for a new EDC!

Too bad the Kershaw Thermite doesn't have a detent hole; seems like exactly what I want with keeping the budget down, and it is sold at a local store to boot!

If you're looking at the thermite, do yourself a favor and get the 0566, they've been hovering around a hundred bucks on the exchange.

Not assisted, tip down, 3.5 inches, great action, comfortable to use, strong lock.

My favorite Kershaw: The Nura (comes in 3 and 3.5 in versions!)

Off topic, but where did you get that thin little lock? Looks wide enough to be useful, but small enough to be unobtrusive!

Oh, sorry, tip up...missed that. I still recommend it, though, and the detent is strong enough to hold the blade folded, at least in my mountain-trail hiking experiences with this knife (only 2 short hikes carrying it, thus far)

Exactly. I carried many locks with me during years, on my keychain. Two examples are the ones from the pic. I found that this one worked best for me, much lighter and thinner than the chained one but wide enough to acommodate most tasks and doors, holes, etc. The small one was almost useless, for almost every task...

I found it in a 5-pack format at Leroy Merlin, which is some type of Wall-Mart store we have here in Spain for gardening, home maintentance and construction materials.

Spain, eh? Awesome! Hablo espanol! Pero no se como hacer acentos en mi computadora. Lo siento si mi espanol es horrible :P

If it wasn't for the tip down carry requirement, I was going to say the Cold Steel Code 4:

Hey everyone!

I'm new to the forum, although I've browsed quite a bit anonymously ;)

I'm looking for a new EDC/work blade and was wondering if anyone could help me out. Here is what I want/need:

Folding Knife

Tip down carry

NO assist

3-3.5 inch blade

Solid, dependable lockup

Durable enough to handle EDC tasks and work tasks while on duty.

I would like to keep the knife under 100 dollars; I could MAYBE stretch it to 150 for the right knife. I like Wharncliffe blades, but I am not too particular. I really like the look of the 5.11 Strider SMF, but I could never afford that! I have had a Spyderco Delica and Endura, as well as a Benchmade Mini Griptilian, and didn't care for them. I currently carry a CRKT M16-13 Titanium and would like something that feels different and a bit more sturdy.

I apologize for being so particular, but I have been searching for the right knife for so long and I really need help! Thank you to everyone in advance for your help!

EDIT: If you could, please post why you would recommend the knife :) Thanks!

Yeah, forgot the code 4 was tip up only; I remembered it had a changeable clip, but that was for left handed, still tip up.

Wonder if the op decided yet?

How about;
McCusta Basic mc-12
Kizer ki302
Both in vg10
Or
Kershaw skyline
(premium s30v or basic sandvik 14c28n)

CRKT shananigan
Bear OPS rancor mc100

Just to give you a few other options to consider.

I haven't decided yet. I've been trying to find places around here to handle these and see which I like best, but I live in the middle of nowhere :/

PM2 is very good. But I'll throw another vote out there for Cold Steel - they have many folder cinfigurations and, arguably, the best (at least one of the best) locking mechanisms out there. And your could get anywhere from 1 to 3+ CS models for $150 - great value for something you're gonna hard-use. Oh, And serrations are readily available. Here's my Large Voyager and Recon-1 G10:

I'll probably get a Recon 1 next in my collection, but I will attest to the awesomeness of the PM2. I have plain old black G10 S30V PM2 and have used it for everything--it's finally broken in 9 months later and is such a smooth and easy to use knife--super solid lockup, great compression lock and now that I have a sharpmaker, easy to sharpen blade. Full flat ground eats cardboard and the ergonomics are on par with my Sebenza. Oh ya and jimping? Blows the Sebenzas out of the water IMO, very comfortable to press hard on with thumb and thumb moves nowhere. I carried mine today and wondered why I don't rotate it in more frequently between my Sage, Sebenza and PM2.

I have watched a few videos on the Recon and it looks like the kind of knife you could run over and use very hard without damaging it. That said, I use my Rat 1 pretty hard and that was barely $30.00 and has been absolutely flawless, and the AUS-8 steel came razor sharp and is easy to get back there quickly.

No recommendations for the Spyderco Yojimbo 2?????

You did say you like a Wharncliffe blade. It's an AWESOME knife and meets all of your criteria (although it is at the top of your price range).
