Hey guys and gals

I'm in the market for a new fixed blade. 4 to 5 inch blade is preferred it will mostly just be an EDC for me. I used to have an old ka-bar my uncle gave me when he used it in Vietnam. But I feel it's too big to carry anymore and it's getting real beat up and I wanna save it so it's time to retire it. I would prefer USA made with a drop point, satin or black finish I'm not a high polish kinda guy. Price range is 250 and under. Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing some suggestions

I'd take a look at the Knife Makers Market here on the forums. For that price range you can get something really nice, made in the US, by hand and support a small craftsman (independent craftsman, not like a gnome or anything). Someone could probably even custom make something for that price range.

The Benchmade Nimravus has been in production for a while. Have a look.

This.
Take your time and get to know what is on offer there. I have personal experience with knives by makers including DPK, Matt Bailey, BACustom Knives, elo147 and Bona (from Poland and top notch work if you want to branch out). Thdy all do fantastic work. Apologies to any I missed.

Take your time and have a look if anyone's work or style jumps out.

The 5 is kinda thick, for EDC I vote Esee 4. These are way under your budget though. I'd check out the custom knives like others have said.

Bark River Bravo 1 LT or another Barkie from the Bravo series, or an Aurora.

This. 250 dollars can get you something special at the Knife Makers Market, and there are more than a couple makers who would be willing to make you a full blown custom for that price.

Dogwoods Custom knives is another maker on here that's a pleasure to do business with, you can get a really nice Echo-5 built for you within your budget. I just got a beautiful Blue Firefly, CPM154, Dogwood scandi with opaque blue pins the other day... and have another green Firefly that should be done soon (long story as to why I got two... I keep meaning to post about it, but busy busy busy) but anyways, again, Dan is an absolute pleasure to work with, truly a talented maker and awesome business ethics!

An LT Wright Genesis is also a great choice....

And an ESEE-5 may be quite large/thick but I absolutely love mine... Paired with a HedgeHog Leatherworks sheath it's something else... I'm never without that knife. But for EDC I don't think you could go wrong with an ESEE 3 or 4.

(I'll edit in pics soon.... I'm having difficulties....)

ESEE 4 or Becker BK17

If you have a Kabar that was used by a family member in a combat zone, I would keep it as a family heirloom and not risk damaging or losing it. And don't do a bunch of polishing or whatever, just oil it and leave it like it is. You know what they say on "Antiques Roadshow"- "in original condition that table would be worth $50,000, but since you polished it it is only worth $10,000.".

Entrek has a variety of fixed-blades with blades 4-5 inches long, and under $250 as well. Full-tangs, micarta handles, kydex sheaths, and made in the USA. I have owned and used an Entrek Cobra (4" blade) for over ten years and it's one of my favorite knives.

No need to spend up to $250.

USA made
Drop Point
Black Finish
Blade between 4 to 5
Easy for EDC
Use to carry an old Ka-bar....

Try a Ka-bar Becker BK-16

My favorite fixed blades are ESEE. I have a 6, which might be a little longer than you want. If it is, then a 4 or 5 should be about right, depending on the thickness you want.

Lot's of suggestions already but we kind of don't know what you will be using it for. How heavily are you going to use it? Which brings up, how thick do you want the blade?
