I am looking to replace an old Spydie Delica with a decent folder/flipper. I have another Delica in a box but want something better and in a flipper!

I am hoping it will be good enough to take some hard use, good steel that holds edge and sharpens fairly easy! It would also be a bonus if blade size is around 3 to 3 1/4 inches.

Price wise I would like it fairly cheap as it will be a hard user!

Thx in advance for any and all recommendations!

Look over all the Civivi knives in 9Cr18Mov. Several are flippers and they are ground fairly well. They get nice and thin behind the edge but none have stock as thin as the Delica. The Civivi Bo in Nitro-V is probably the closest to the Delica in terms of slicing.

WE has perfected the heat treatment on their 9Cr18Mov. Edge retention for the Civivi and Sencut knives in 9Cr18Mov is somewhere between VG-10 and S30V. I think the Sencut knives are exclusive to Amazon but here are all the options from Civivi on BladeHQ:

SOG Terminus XR would get my vote, it comes in D2 or S35VN, a 2.95" blade, has solid ergonomics, and the XR lock is extremely strong and can handle some hard use.

Alright let's ignore the whole "decent price" stuff. Go for a We Arrakis.

For real though, check out some bestech or Kershaw flippers if you want some affordable beaters.

Gerber gator
154cm
Lock back
3.75 inches
47$

you do have to deal with it being a gerber, but the steel is right, the size is right, the lock is strong, and you get to beat on it 😆

not sure it gets any better than that

I'm not sure Civivis would fit your bill, they're more for lighter duties than "hard use". There are a few heavier built Civivi knives out there like the hooligan, pintail, that are slightly thicker than usual Civivi blade stock.

That being said, some of the WE knives are rather beefy, I have an old 604 that's a thick tank, can probably baton with it.

I'd point you to a few I think are more suited, but no folder for me screams "hard use".
CRKT Pilar
Kershaw flippers (try Bareknuckle or similar)
Kizer makes a few good ones, such as sheepdog, mini-critical, gemini...

If you dont mind stretching your unknown budget a little, I would point you to my ultimate recommendation, the ZT 357, which fits all your bill, it's one of the most cost efficient ZT and I've seen it on sale for like 115$ frequently.

But yes, tell us a budget.

I like my Civivi Elementum as much as some of my much more expensive knives. Good action, practical blade shape. Mine's D2, but I think the latest ones are something fancier.

Ill toss in the Kershaw Leek, Link in 20cv, or Dividend as good options.

The Western Active Honey Badger is also flipp(y) & cheap. - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GCGBRXX/ref=emc_b_5_t

A little higher price into the 160.00 range - the Drop / FF collab is really well done (as is the Drop / Laconico Keen) imo. Great flipper action.

I'll add another "what do you mean by some hard use?". That matters. For instance, do you want something you can really bare down on and push through materials? Do you want something you can baton through a log?

Of course, there are some jobs that just aren't for folders and that could be part of the consideration here. I read the original comment as S sir_mike just looking for something "harder use" than a Delica.

Sir Mike, I don't understand this part: if you will use the knife hard and often, it should be worth more to you, no ?

Assuming that - like me - you don't want to buy a knife from a country with active concentration camps, I suggest Kershaw, ZT or Buck. Plenty of great choices in the $100-$120 range.
