hello BF's.

I'm looking for an awesome titanium handle knife, and would like your recommendations.

recommendation must meat some very particular demands. (admittedly I'm picky) :)

1. US made (Taiwan as second option)
2. it's going to be a play knife, a knife to enjoy opening & closing (i may or may not put it to use, so steel not critical)
3. must have steel insert & preferably one that is known to be successfully replaced. (no slippage no stickiness)
4. must be WAY above average feel in hand & must be ultra smooth with no resemblance of any sharp edges what so ever.
5. mechanism must be very smooth.
6. must have thumb studs (flipper as extra is fine - blade lock fine as well)
7. it needs to be not to heavy hopefully under 5.5oz. (my BM Adamas is my ultimate play knife but its just to heavy)
8. price up to 200$ (+-20$)

PS
I'm not a spyderco or bokers type of a guy. (please don't take offense, its just not my style)
BM & ZT are my top choices for makers in that order. (I'm good for axis lock)

can't wait to see what you got to recommend.

G-10 comes in under 200 and CF a bit over. I picked this CF up for 200 NIB. Flips great, has steel insert. feels great in your hand, no sharp edges at all.

From what I read(correct me if I am wrong), according to OP he wants TITANIUM HANDLED knife (to me that mean both sides titanium)

0562 has a G10/CF handle on Steel liner mated with a TI lockside, also those are not thumb studs but blade stops (according to ZT) since I am unable to deploy my 0562 via the blade stops.

I think that CRKT M16 Ti model is the only viable option that meets the requirements that are stated, its not made in the USA but Taiwan. Personally I would not waste my money on a CRKT.

Everything else that is a full ti handled knife that is made in the USA (that I know of) will be over $250 and be a flipper w/out thumbstuds or non flipper w/ thumb studs but no steel lock bar insert.

ALL FULL TI handled ZT knives are mainly flippers WITHOUT thumbsuds, but meet all other requirements. Anything Benchmade with full ti handles cost well over $220. The 755MPR has a ti framelock side but G10 handle scale. You could build a Griptilian with Wilkins Ti handles or RGT Ti scales but over $220.

Even the Sebenza is $300+ and has no steel lock bar insert, but its smooth and real nice.

My buddy took his titanium m16-13 to Afghanistan and put it through hell; more than 5 years after coming back, he still carries it and it still looks great! He just had to clean the sand out of it when he got home...ah the memories of trying to find that little spring for the safety on his kitchen floor :) He inspired me to pick one up and it has taken everything I can throw at it (that a knife is intended for) and it still looks and functions like it is new.

Nice CAP job.

about the CRKT M16-13 , that's very interesting choice, i would have not thought of it,
but I'm skeptical a liner lock could withstand many thousands of opening & closing like my Adamas does.
(i replace broken omega spring every 2k openings or so)

about the "both sides titanium" i'm ok with once side being smooth from other material if the smoothness & feel in hand are strictly kept.

as about ZT's i would have more then one if they use thumbstud to open & not serve as blade stop. (they would be my number 1 choice.)

I'm not to keen on the Gripilian shape or handles, BUT.
that Wilkins Ti handles is a hole other ball game, and since i love Axis lock & know BM quality its seams to put's it at the top option for now.

if can get it all shipped to my country (outside us) under 220$, that's a very interesting choice i would never consider, and welcome with both hands, thank's.

if there's a frame lock i would take with out steel inserts it would be sabenza, but its just way out of my league & i liked the Ti Griptilian + axis lock option much more..

but lets keep it open for more suggestions.
(please excuse my English its second language)

Are balisongs legal where you live?
If so, BM53. Go with G10, man.

there must be more options ... right?
i wont mind aluminum handle that looks like TI.

I don't think you can make a handle slab leaf spring out of Aluminum. So you could only have Aluminum on the side opposite the the frame (Ti) lock. The Kershaw Shallot has a model with a stainless frame lock on one side and an Aluminum slab on the other.

If you could go up to $300, I'd suggest the BM 761 as it fulfills all the other requirements majestically.
Granted, it doesn't have a steel lockbar insert, but it doesn't need one at all.
It is by far the fastest and smoothest flipping thumbstudded knife I've ever used.

Maybe you can find a used one closer to your price range.

$300 you can get a lionsteel tre in full ti, it has a removable thumb disc not sure if that meets your requirements it also has a removable flipper tab as well hence the name. Its made in Italy tho, but very high quality as many things from Italy are.

If you like the Benchmade idea, RGT sells a full titanium handle set for the full sized grip, looks very nice but unless you can find a used grip for $50 its going to run over your budget.

If you can pick up a used zt 0550 3rd gen. Manual opener with steel insert and has thumb studs, G10 front scale resting on a steel liner, its a tank, and RGT makes a Titanium front scale for it.

As for the crkt and handling the tours and use, that is great to hear , just my personal preference. If its working out for you that is great, more power to you.

Kizer makes alot of titanium flipper knives with thumb studs, most of them are all under $200 and are quite smooth. Only issue is, they are all made in China, but from the reviews I have read and the Kizer Gemini that I own, I can say they are pretty impressive for the price your paying.

ZT 0452 carbon fiber. It's a beaut at $220.00, @ 4.6 oz. If it's 4" blade is too big, look at the smaller version, the ZT 0450. I'm getting the 452 myself for Christmas.

If you do not want full Ti then I have to agree with the 562CF. If you can let go of the thumb stud requirement then I highly recommend the ZT0801. It fits all the rest of your requirements perfectly!

no thumbstud opening, they are more of a blade stop then functional studs.
if tey ware fully functioning studs i would have more ZT's by now. :)

Hmm..I open my zt560 using both the flipper, and the blade stops/thumbstuds. Love that elmax too, yes it can be a bear to sharpen, but it takes everything I throw at it.
