Looking for a pocket knife...

If you get a Vic Outrider, you lose one-handed opening, but gain a scissors and a couple other implements. It was a worthy compromise for me.

The Trekker is nice, but too big for a true "pocket" knife. Although I do know someone with an OHT on his keyring...

I would pick the Farmer. I have three of them (red Alox too!) and one OHT. The saws are identical aside from size, and the Alox of the Farmer makes it feel so incredibly solid in the hand.

I couldn't decide between the Trekker and Farmer so I got one of each! :D

I just got a Hiker a couple of weeks ago. It's been meeting all of my needs very well teamed up with a Spyderco Delica. I'm planning on getting a OH Trekker next. I would have gotten it this weekend but the Spyderco Mule Team knives were released and I went for one of those instead. Next up after that will be a Farmer. The nice thing about SAKs is that they're inexpensive enough that I can collect a few different ones to try out even on a fairly tight budget. I'll probably get the Trekker later this month and the Farmer next month unless something really catches my eye on one of the Himalayan Imports deal of the day threads.

The Hiker would be another option.
How does the quality of the Hiker compare to the Farmer (beside the ALOX handles of course)?

Well, alox scales make for a slimmer profile, and the weight difference is negligible. I personally love the feel of the alox knives, particularly the soldier (farmer, minus the saw and key ring). Alox just feels more solid, and the knife blade is a little thicker. Both will do the job just fine, but who's to say that the cellidor scales won't crack after dropping your knife one too many times.

That being said, I like my OHT over my Farmer. I take it hiking all the time, though I haven't really had a reason to use it (except for the toothpick, to get a piece of pear out of my teeth). I bought a red alox version a few months back off of recommendations on these forums. The knife is solid, and I can see how it's developed an almost cult-like following, but it never caught on with me.

The farmer is more of an edc for me, in the woods I guess I am slightly leaning toward the OHT. Larger saw, tweezers, size doesn't matter as much.
I haven't been in the bush in a while though, so its usually the farmer.

I carry a Vic Hunter in my side pocket on all my woods trips. During hunting season, there are many of them. It has the large locking blade, without the serrated edges, a small serrated gut hook style blade, a large saw, screwdriver/bottle opener, awl, corkscrew, toothpick and tweezers. I used the saw on a few oak limbs that were blocking my shooting view this year. The saw also works great at spliting the pelvis and ribcage on deer.

I edc a Vic Hiker. Its a great little pocket knife, but not as tough as the Farmer. In the woods I carry my Hiker and Farmer. The OHT is a little to big for me for pocket carry. I have 2 OHts, one with the serrations removed. You can also get the Trekker. It is the same as the OHT except it has a plain edge blade that you have to open with both hands.

I'd get a Schrade Buzz saw trapper. Carbon steel, not too expensive, and a great knife with a traditional flair.

Thanks for all the input guys:thumbup:

Found a good price on a Vic Farmer, so that’s the way I’m going to go. I’d still like to get a Vic OHT though, sooner or later I’ll have one. Thanks again guys:thumbup:
