Looking for a pocket scalpel.

I have a Kopa in my pocket, but a Kiwi is a great blade - just on the small side.
I also can recommend a Rookie, if it ever gets back to me from Spyderco.
Don't overlook Queens - I have a teardrop that is like a scalpel, in D2.

I'll second the Kershaw Skyline and the Case Sod Buster Jr, both are great slicers and nice and light in the pocket to boot.

Schrade USA or Case. Traditional knives are thing as can be and will slice on par or better than a sak any day of the week. Go for a nice stockman pattern. Or a Case Copperhead.

What about a BM707?
blade length 2.95", closed 3.8"
blade thickness 2.54mm (0.1")

Small package, great knife, high quality and it fits in every 'environment' ;)

I was leather stropping my ENER-G today admiring the grind and blade shape,,,,,and scalpel came to mind. Dang they do be sharp!!

Kershaw skyline is very thin and gets very sharp . Same with a centefonte 3

X2 on the Kershaw Skyline. Not a Sunday go to meeting knife.A rather plane every day carry.Super light, 2.3oz. A spear point flipper , relativly speeking a large thin blade, which geometry is perfectly suited for EDC. I usually forget it is in my pants pocket ,until I need it.Thats what EDC is all about.

Don't overlook Fallknivens - quality knives. I have a TK4 and can recommend it. For a fancier version, there is the TK3, or if you want a liner lock, the P series.

Here are my requirements:

Price range: Strictly below 150.
Blade length: 2.5-3.5 inches
Blade thickness: 3mm tops, thinner is better.
Closed length: 4" or less

What I've considered so far:
-Spyderco Stretches
-Spyderco Sage
-Spyderco Dfly and Kopa

I have the Kopa - A little gem of a knife, but I suspect if you handled it you'd find it was too small for EDC use. Even though the blade length is listed at 2.5", the cutting edge is less than 2", because of the blade choil.

Sage 1 is going for around $80. At 3" the size is right in the middle of your range and closed it runs just about 4". Its full flat grind S30V blade comes hair poppin sharp out of the box, but you can hone it to an even finer edge easily.

Dragonfly is a little smaller than the Sage, with a lockback. The cutting performance would be similar with the same grind on the blade (although with VG-10 steel)

If you want a real scalpel, you will probably have to regrind the edge down to .01" or 10/1000ths of an inch. Most factory edges are .015" or greater if I'm not mistaken. It does make a difference in the ultimate sharpness you can get out of a blade.

Hi all. I'm on the lookout for an EDC folder that's really good at slicing. Any chance you guys can help me out?

Here are my requirements:

Price range: Strictly below 150.
Blade length: 2.5-3.5 inches
Blade thickness: 3mm tops, thinner is better.
Closed length: 4" or less

I don't mind tacticals or traditionals. My benchmark for slicing is the SAK-if it can outslice a SAK, then I'll like it. A dressy knife would be a plus too.

What I've considered so far:
-Spyderco Stretches
-Spyderco Sage
-The blue Spyderco Manix 2 (I know it isn't meant to be a slicer, but this would fall under general EDC)
-Spyderco Gayle Bradley (Same as above)
-Spyderco Dfly and Kopa

Of the knives you have listed I have the Stretch, Manix 2 FFG / CF, Dfly and Kopa...

The only ones I'd consider even the slightest bit dressy would be the Kopa and the Dragonfly (G10 version). The rest may look a bit more intimidating than you'd care for due to their size. As a slicer the Stretch and Dragonfly has worked well for me. The Kopa is just too small to be used for any real utility use. It'll do for opening packages, letters and such but nothing that would be more demanding as the handle is just too small for that. The Dragonfly on the other hand is small enough to pocket comfortably and slices pretty well for a small size. If size and societal views/ opinions are not a concern then it's the Stretch FTW... On hindsight I should have gotten it in VG-10 as I prefer the more refined edge that I can get on this steel.

For daily use I do prefer the blade thickness off the Dragonfly... Any thinner and it'll flex too much for my liking; if I wanted a blade that flexes I have my fillet knives.
