Looking for a prybar for my kit.....

If you don't mind spending the money, look into a Wilson Coptool. I've got one in my bunker coat at work and it's been simply awesome. Plus, it also has a serrated edge and seatbelt cutter on it.MIght be a little bit bigger than you're looking for, but it really is great.

$80 for that CRKT?!

give me $80 and i'll custom build a breacher bar of 5160, sharper and tougher with a strider style cord wrap.

Here's a few I did. Got them at Ace Hardware and flame anodized them.

Not looking to Hi Jack the thread.

just curious,

what have you guys ever used these for?

I have a larger Stanely one (it's about 7-8 inches long), that help me get into my office in Iraq after my nice young officer lost the padlock key:rolleyes:

Just used one of the mini-pry bars at the range to get a round out of the chamber when the extractor wouldn't capture it.

You can use them for all the stuff most people end up using their knife blades for and end up breaking the tip...improvised chisel, scraping tool, screwdriver and all the typical prying needs etc.

The County Comm ones are well made and the midget goes on the keychain quite well. I use them as "blade-savers":D

I bought a 7 1/2" Stanley and a 5 1/2" Vaughan pry bar today. So far, I've only played with the smaller of the two. I sharpened both ends with a file, the straight end does a fairly respectable job as a wood gouge/chisel. Seems like it would make a pretty good expedient digging tool. Bottom line is a lightweight, compact, and inexpensive multi use tool. As pointed out previously, definitely a better option for the ugly work than one's knife.

I have used my mini prybar to open tins of paint, boxes, hold skirting level prior to nailing etc

I use mine for the many task I do not want to dull my knife with, such as scraping for dry tinder from a tree

one handed trekker, one magnificent knife. one of those "this could be the only one" knives.

I ended up not placing an order with county comm this weekend, but I did pick up one of these for about 3 bucks at Menard's:

It's already proven itself to be a handy little tool when working on my girlfriend's van yesterday. I think I'm going to get another one and cut off the "L" at the end to make it more comfortable to carry, and keep the unmodified one in my tool box.

What kind of padlock is/was it? Did you manage to defeat the shackle or did you pry the hasp off?

I thought I had all the bases covered in my survival kit. But after reading this, I really like the idea of a prybar. I added a 5 1/2" Vaughan mini prybar to my kit today.

Great idea guys. Thanks!
