I am looking for a work of fiction that is fun to read set in the future either after the collapse of civilization or fighting a war against zombies.

Any suggestions??

Thanks everyone. I really like all good post Apocolypse books. Years ago I read the Survivalist series by Jerry Ahern I think.

The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I read it in an afternoon, awesome book like all of Mccarthy's work.

You should definitely read 'The Stand' by Stephen King. No zombies unfortunately, and not too fast paced at times, but it vividly portrays what a post-TEOTWAWKI world might be like.

I just finished "Rot and Ruin" by an author I can't think of at the moment. It was for my son's Library Book Club, and we read it together. It's in the juvenile fiction section, but was very well written, and faced paced, with great character developement. There is a sequel coming out this year, I believe.

Fighting a war against zombies (among other things) - Monster Hunter International by Larry Correia. World War Z is awesome as well. The Road is incredible but a real downer. I know that vampires are so 1995, but I Am Legend by Richard Matheson (written in the 50's) is a good post-vampire apocalypse book.

I just read a book with zombies, vampires, etc, and heading off an apocolypse.

"Monster Hunter International" by LARRY CORRIEA.
One of the top ten stories I've ever read and just plain slam bang fun.

Day By Day Armaggeddon and Day By Day Armageddon - Beyond Exile by by J.L. Bourne - Details the survival of a naval officer after the rise of zombies. Written in diary form. Highly recommended.

Plague of the Dead The Morningstar Strain and Thunder and Ashes The Morningstar Strain by Z. A. Recht - Also very good.

Both authors have the advantage of being, usually, in stock at your local big box book store.

either of the J.W. Rawles books are ok, interesting read, though IMO not written the best, none the less it will keep you interest and is a how-to manual written in fiction type form.
Jerry Ahern's Survivalist series is pretty cool, gets way far fetched towards the end, its more gun releated than knife releated. You can tell its from the 80's, pretty neat going back to the Colt CAR15, Detonics, Gerber MKII and AG Russel sting 1a

You'll enjoy Richard Matheson's Omega Man and I Am Legend (especially compared to the movies of the same name). World War Z is the best of the Zombie genre. Brooks (WWZ) thoroughly inspects every thought process behind a Zombie apocalypse. The social commentary examined in I Am Legend is typical of late 50's early 60's sic-fi. Of course the movie missed the point entirely.

Didn't know there were books available on this. Is Omega Man the book the classic movie with Charleton Heston was based on?
