Looking for a SMALL thin locking knife

Buck 55...it's a mini 110...you never notice it in your pocket. It is a great gentleman's folder as well. Sturdy, and while 440HC isn't my favorite...Buck does a good job with it

I'd stay away from anything made by Gerber. The Buck Nobleman is an excellent inexpensive knife, but it's about 3 and 3/4 inches closed. The Buck Colleague and Scholar are similar in style to the Nobleman, but are quite a bit smaller - just a hair under 3 inches closed. All three are liner locks. The Gent would be a good choice too, and is made in the USA.

Fallkniven U2 is small (about 3.25" so over your limit by a bit), light and fairly sturdy.

Moki makes a number of small lockbacks. They are not cheap, but quality is excellent. I have a couple of Moki knives in AUS8 and VG10.
Al Mar also has some good and small lockbacks.
I like the Fallkniven Blackhawk. It is a bit larger than you seemed interested in, with a 2.6" blade.

CRKT Eros and Eros 2. 3" and 2" blade, 1.3 and .7 oz. Both the same Thickness of 1/4" (handle thickness). Titanium Framelock. Strong for the weight, razor sharp, very pointy, and fast with the IKBS flipper opening.

Here is a pic of mine next to a Case Peanut.

The Buck 505 Knight and 526 Executive have been dependable lockbacks for me for many years. They hold a great edge and you can barely feel them in the pocket of dress pants. 2.75" closed.

Benchmade Shoki (think I spelled it correctly). I don't have one but I have fondled a few. You can get it in m390, or s30v. They are small and very light. Kinda spendy though.

I have a Kershaw Chill, thinnest and lightest knife I have. But very nice. I like the Kershaw speed-safe system though, which my Volt II has, so I carry it more. But the chill is not exactly a work knife, i mean, I did accidentally bend the tip one time. And so yeah, its slightly bent, actually I think my friend did when I let him borrow it to use when we were trying to get a very tiny screw and he used the back of the tip as a screwdriver. And I'm pretty sure that bent it. But its not a super thick blade like you need if you abuse a knife often. The Volt II has a much thicker and heavier blade and is more of an everyday work knife. For me anyways.
But yeah, if you want a good knife that is very easy to hide or isn't noticeable the Chill works great.

... as thin as possible while still being somewhat sturdy...

The only knife I have like that is a Gerber. Don't remember what design it is or where it is at the moment. I have other knives like the GB Air and like sized kin but that Gerber is the smallest, functional knife I own.
Nice little knife...

Benchmade 530. Awesomely light and skinny little knife. It is a little scary looking around sheeple though.
