Looking for a survival knife

If you look at the classic sami knives they lack any finger guards whatsoever.

Early (classic) race cars had no seat belts or roofs and would kill the driver if he rolled over. Might make you drive a little more carefully, but even the best drivers can have accidents.

Tired and stressed out people are more likely to have an accident. Being lost or injured in the woods will probably stress you out.

what can a guard-less knife do that one like the Aurora cannot? A small guard makes a knife far more versatile, and much safer.

"tactical" is what ever you have in your hand at the moment, and most of the fixed blades out there are good enough to be used as a "survival knife", the steel is not as important as you might think.

If I remember correctly those who run rat cutlery designed the Rat knives when employd by Ontario. I would buy from Rat but Ontario is a good solid company by most accounts.

Ka-bar is one of the most used knife in the "those who use knives" category. It has secured it's place as one of the most efficient, for its purpose, knife design in history. There has to be something to it!
I do own one, an original. Solid thing by Camillus NY-1981. Made to kill and dig the grave and afterwards circumsise a jew whose making a deal by phone, overseas. And they don´t like overseas rates.
Solid knife in all. I haven't used it much though and can´t say how it fares from abuse from a personal perspective.

Bigotry such as yours has no place here.

hard to believe
but sadly true:

whatever contempt you have for me
i wish the worst for you

This is absolutely true. The first time you go through it, and have to rely on your skills, it is very stressful. After that, it gets easier until you eventually look forward to it. :D

Skills. What?

:p

It's true that a short guard probably won't get in the way, it's also true Finns and Sami use knives without them without noticeable problems.

It's also true that these knives are mostly used by those people in traditional ways with which they grow up. Stress and fatigue aren't as much of a problem when the tasks are part of the normal round of daily chores, no more than kitchen work with knives would be in our homes.

They aren't running off on adventures or camping trips with them.

Skills. What?

:p

Didn't you know? :p

THIS is NOT a joke, a figure of speech. It is not PC to object to an ignorant attack, a stereotypical portrayal, AND in the same sentence as to kill and dig the grave.

You have a problem with the infraction, take it to Service & Support. Telling a moderator to loosen up for it could get you another infraction.

Do it again and you're gone.

You misspelled "circumcise". And, "jew' should be capitalized - as in, "Christ was a Jew".

Other than that, you're a real prick.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Bigotry such as yours has no place here.

How many times does this need to be said?

I may cuss and swear sometimes, but this is out-of-the-park bad taste and more.

If he wants to meet me in Whine and Cheese, so be it.

So, you're saying we should reduce the possibility of stress by wearing our knife in kydex, strategically placed over a certain part of our anatomy? :D

Yes, it relate to i-ching. Knife over soft part make for good hard knife.

Bigotry? That is a joke, a figure of speech. There is no place for too politically correct people, anywhere. Loosen up.

I guarantee you wouldn't have the stones to talk like that to me in person.

Another keyborne tough guy.

I'd give you an infraction for sassing a moderator since you just don't get it, but I will leave that decision in the very capable hands of my friend, Esav.
