I've worn a Livesay Titanium Tiger around my neck for awhile, don't think you could find thinner or lighter. Newt may have some left.

Hi,

I am looking for an easy to conceal, slim profiled neck knife. I'd like one with a blade under 3 1/2" preferrably with a good kydex sheath, but under $100.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am thinking of using the break-away dog tag chain. Is this the best option for concealability? I'm sure that paracord is easy to spot....but then again I could be wrong!

And does anyone wear a neck knife under just a T-shirt without showing any outward signs of carry? If so, what knife and how is the carry?

Thanks.

Regards,

Ken

Heh heh, neck knives again. I've got the REKAT Fang (I think it's gonna get sold soon, though). Good knife, never carried it much, but a good knife if you get used to the handle. Though I've never had the La Griffe, I'd consider that, too. The Newt Livesay Ti Tiger is a good one, and it's longer cousin the Ti Bugger is good as well. I have both, and they're pretty sweet if you're into Titanium knives. Price on them? A little over $20 each. Are you looking for just a defensive blade, though? The La Griffe (gotta get one soonN!) seems like a really good option out of all of them, especially since it's under $100 (I actually read the part about you wanting it under $100). The REKAT Utility would get high marks, too, I'm sure, but for the cost, weight, ability to defend (not attack), and concealability, the La Griffe seems to be the way to go-- an I don't even have one! I've heard the sheath needs work, though. Right behind, though, would be the Ti Tiger/Ti Bugger and REKAT Fang. The former is a great stabber if you're into that stuff, and if you use a reverse grip on the Ti Bugger, it makes a good, sharp alternative to hammer fist and punyo type strikes. The latter is a good slasher. Hope this helps. Oh yeah, Newt Livesay's neck knife line is really good, especially for the money.

Of my neck knives, the Livesay Titanium Tiger, Livesay G45, and CRKT Neck Peck make the smallest signature, and all are VERY inexpensive.

"Always just one knife short of perfection!"

I was surprised how slim Newt's G45 was. It's a nice little neck knife. It's hard to tell it's under the T-shirt, and it's so light you easily can forget it's there.

I own a crapload of neck knives, so here's my 2 cents. The REKAT Fang is surprisingly easy to conceal for its size. They have done a great job with this knife. As far as cutting, stabbing, etc goes, though, in my tests (they will be ready for public viewing in a couple weeks) the Fang just doesn't perform as well as I would've hoped. If the knife is for self defense purposes, you have to use the La GRiffe. Read past threads on this knife all over these forums and you'll see why it is such a sweet design for self defense use. If you want the knife to work for utility, I would look very closely at Running Dog Knives. I have their Little Pup and their Little Camper. The Little Camper is un-freakin-believable! I love that knife! RDK has a bunch of others, too, so check out their website. All of them have multicarry options... http://www.emersonknives.com/ http://www.runningdogknife.bigstep.com

Get a benchmade nimravus cub, take off the handle scales, replace with grip-tape. Order custom kydex from any one of the guys around here-al are reputable! Makes for a larger than usual, comfortable carry piece!

I have 4 different neck knives that I carry at different times. The emerson La Griffe is a great little knife but with limited use in my opion. But for it`s intended use it`s perfect. I also have pat crawford neck knife. This one is a little more versitle as you can use it as a utility knife also on a limited basis. It is very slim and hides very well. About six inches lone overall. I also have 2 of barry dawson custom neck knives or you might call them neck spikes. They are mostly triangular in shape but they will cut pretty well and they also hide very well under a shirt. They are about 8 inches overall. 8 inches overall is about the longest neck knife I can carry confortably. Now my favorite neck knife is my bud nealy by boker. It`s called the specialist with a tanto blade. It`s about 7 inches overall. This is the perfect length for a neck knife. It makes a great utility knife as well as being a neck knife that that you can hide quite well. As far a ball chain over paracord, I`ll have go with paracord. All chains that I`ve used are to noisy. Every time you bend over or from side to side the chain slides and makes noise. also the paracord is nice and warm around the neck.

Ken, if you are looking at patterns mostly you might look at my site. I don't know how the mailing regulations would be to Malaysia but it might be better to find the style you like and have it made there. If the climate is humid and warm a lot, I would try to find something in a non corrisive steel. Good luck on your search.

I have it! You want to see the TOPS street Scalpel? I have it! But what can i say........? Spark/moderators, i know you guys wil whoop me for this but i'm just TOO dissapointed......

This is a new design I have in progress. I call them Claws. I designed these for pocketcarry to use every day for opening letters, cutting string etc. They should work well as neckknives too.Top one will have scales. Bottom one not. Steel is RWL-34. I am going to make some in Damasteel too. Both are hollowground.

I have not decided on price but shouldnt break your budget

Jens, beautiful designs! For what it's worth, I love my PErsonal Sheepfoot kit knife. Here's a photo of the finished product... the blade is ATS-34, with stainless steel hardware on honey-colored canvas Micarta scales. There is a very thin black fiber spacer between the tang and scales, but you can't see it in this view.

reply to the above:I am a 16 year old student and i must say that my personal favourites are the cold steel mini culloden and the la griffe..
the cold steel culloden is a more lethal stabber/penetrator, but the la griffe from emerson is the ultimate in concealability.
even when i am wearing my singlet for physical exercises, the knife is not noticed at all by any of my classmates or my teacher...you could try the la griffe...its one hell of a knife.the culloden is a cool knife but its small handle makes it hard to unsheath when you are panicking or in a hurry
i would still prefer the la griffe...its the best option for neck carry i feel

In addition to a good neck knife design, I think sheaths that have multicarry capabilities enhance the knives significantly.

Right now. I think REKAT set the standard in this but are not longer in production. Mike "Running Dog" Murphy's multicarry sheaths are right up there in quality/design. He also has the variations of knife designs to satisfy most folks, especially since he is adding on satinless options to his coated 1084, e.g. 440C, BG42 and Talonite (?near future).

Oh, yes. No print under the tshirt and under the $100 limit.
