Looking for another Becker

What I would really like is to find someone to do some blue jean micarta on a 2. Some real faded blue jean. Think that would look really sharp on a black blade. I am always finding tutorials about how to make it but I'm too lazy to try.

If I had a guess, which I do by the way, I'd say your blue denim would look almost black or maybe dark navy blue after having a resin poured over it. The colors never seem to turn out like I hope they will. I guess maybe if you were to use some really faded denim it might be cool. Maybe I'll try it.

Oh, get both knives. I like the BK7 far better than the BK2 though.

given that the brute and patrol machete will be remade in the [near] future... unless you HAVE to have an older model, it's probably not cost effective. just sayin' :)

Buy Becker :)

Bladite I just saved myself some cash. I was going to bid on that and then I looked up into one of Ethans threads yesterday and saw that it was coming back. My list is growing between this decision, the Machax and mini companion. Now looks like a brute machete might be a must have.

I was concerned by that. I have seen variations but most of them did look dark which is not what I would want on a BK. The knife just calls out for light and casual to me and the dark is a bit too dressy looking. Here is the only knife I own with blue jean micarta and it looks okay on a small folder but I would rather see something like the pic posted below. I think that would love drop dead gorgeous on a BK with a black or stripped blade. Plus, it would be incredibly unique since you never see it used much.

The one I was drooling over was a give away knife from j williams over at another forum. I wanted that dame thing so much I could taste it but alas it went to another great forum member over there. Now it just resides on my desktop as the one that got away haha.

A couple that I found pics of that are close but still a bit dark.

So, I labored over this all day and finally did what I figured I would. Just went over to Tomar's site and got a BK2, BK7 and a set of micarta handles. I'm fixing to be a Beckerhead. Now all I need to do is decide which one gets the new pants. Strip or not? Blue or not? Shit, too much to think about right now. Thanks to everyone that threw in their 2 cents!

Glad to see you made the right decision! When it doubt, order both! Glad to have you here brother. I say leave em coated for a bit, or only strip one, and then work the coating off of the other and see how you like it. You can always strip it later if you like. Best part about the micarta is that you can switch it around, so try it on one for awhile then try it on the other. Great way to make an old blade feel like new, or a great way to fine tune your grip if you find you need more grip on one over the other.

Yeah Derek that sounds like a good idea. I like the idea of seeing how the black will wear. I am going camping the last week of the month and am going to have fun with these two. At this point I will probably put the handles on the 2 but who knows. Now I have to look into doing a mos or getting another sheath for the 2. If memory serves I wasn't too crazy about the one it comes with.

Had a package on my door today when I got home. Had to snap a few shots. Will take more glamor shots later. Could not be happier with these 2 knives. The 7 is surprisingly lighter in weight than I thought it would be. Sorry the pics are quick and hurried. Best I could do on the fly.

awesome. i love that new becker smell....which is usually quickly drown out by the smell of stripper, gun blue, and a nice camp fire......

Thanks guys. Yeah they sure are beauties. Grinds are good. Everything is flush. Really well made knives. I can nitpick with the best of them. The only thing I found was the slightest bit of black coating missing at the spine near the tip of the 7 which is hardly an issue since I am going to do all kinds of damage to the coating on these.

I almost forgot what a brick the 2 is. Will take a few more "brand new" shots for posterity. These will be going camping weekend after next so they will not stay pristine long. Thinking of sanding and buffing the micarta handles (thanks never too sharp) and putting them on one of the knives.

Is there something wrong with me for thinking I need a 11 or 14 to go with them since I already have an Izulu?

No, that's natural.

Thanks I was starting to wonder. :)

Hey stupid question guys. I have sanded down my micarta handles. Finished off with 400 grit because I couldn't find any 600. Figure I let them set up the night and maybe do a bit more tomorrow. Take into consideration I am not a mod person. The handles look dull and dry. Would it be okay to put some mineral oil on them to brighten them up and then tomorrow buff with compound to get a shine? I didn't want to oil them if that would hamper the ability to buff to a shine.

So for a military carry..both in the jungle and the desert. Which of the two would you guys recomend? Keep in mind I will be carrying a bunch of gear and don't need a sword hanging off my side. At first I am leaning towards the bk2 for it's size. But then I am thinking in a bug out situation or for constructing hide sites the bk7 might be better suited. Any help would be great. And also does the 7 still come with the other knife? And any thoughts on a better sheath system that at a minimum will hold a metal match and be able to attacha small magazine pouch. I am leaning towards kydex for the hot and wet envorment. But eventualy would like to get a hhlw sheath.

I just cant decide

I usually stain mine with dye, but Ive also seen mineral oil dying jobs as well. Im thinking your handles will be darker if you oil them. That's fine if you want them darker but just a warning in case you don't. I can't speak for your other question since I don't buff micarta

Ah just had a thought. I put a coat of satin polyurethane on mine, to cover the dye since it was getting on my hands. And that made them very smooth and stopped dye transfer. Don't know if that helps but just a thought.

Thanks Clich. When I was wet sanding they were chocolate brown which I'm not sure I want The one never too sharp did showed the colors and the grains in the micarta and that is what I am leaning toward so I may just buff them as is. I have never buffed micarta either. This may end up a mess. :)

They both are good and can do a something the other can't. In a jungle type situation (which I've never been in so I could be way off base) you wont be doing much batoning, but you will need to chop if you building things. Id say the 2. Better chopper. If you were mainly batoning id say the 7 since it can process big wood, but i hear it doesn't chop as well as the thick two, esp a convexed bk2. Check with azwelke for a kydex sheath, you wont be disappointed.

No prob man. The poly would make em darker to. post up how the buffing works out, im intrigued

Best thing about micarta that nothing you do effects the whole piece since the top layer can just be sanded off. Good luck, im sure its gonna turn out fine
