Looking for digital Kydex

OK...this morning I decided to try the spray paint on a Machete sheath I made recently for my Martindale.

I cut stencils out of paper and taped them to the sheath... first green...then brown... It worked just fine. I did get a bit of a sloppy look on some of it because my paper wasn't tight enough against the kydex and I got some overspray.

The paint looks a bit shiny in the pic... Still a bit wet. Hopefully it will dull out... it is supposed to be matte...

BTW... the paint sticks very well.

OH... the sheath is right next to the Machete in the pic (um... in case you can't see it ;))

I found this thread:
ACU camo Kydex sheet (ACU: Army Combat Uniform)
on the Survival Sheath System's sub-forum. However, I didn't have any luck finding the products on the site they recommended.

KD,

I'm still looking....Blade Tech gets some in 1/8" but they find that they don't get many orders for it.

Us Northwet guys all use the same supplier and they don't carry the patterned material. I'm starting to think the supply has dried up due to production costs....

I have solids that match quite well.

Any one ever hear of this Boltaron, think it is like, or is Concelex (spelling?) still looking with no advances. People cant really be painting this stuff can they? My painting skills really suck.:grumpy:

The more I drink, the better my painting gets.................

..............At least I think so. :p

Man... that duracoat looks great! but ughhh... the price is pretty high. Still, nice work! I may have to deck out one of my AR's...

Boltaron (has be referred to as Concealex) is essentially Kydex with more acrylic in the mix. Tends to be slightly easier to machine and shrinks a bit less when heated.

I've been using the stuff for several years, but will switch back to Kydex if pricing dictates.

Sniper, NICE WORK!!

I just got off the phone with a rep from Kydex company. She informed me that what once was manufactured, is no more. According to her, for some time now has not been produced. Must not have been cost efficient or somthing?

Scratch resistance ? On the sheath, once cured (two week) duracoat is very resistent to scratching.

DAYUUUM!!!! 308SNIPER that Digi camo looks KICK ASS!!!! + 1 on the Dura coat's resistence to scratches.:thumbup::thumbup:

308... How long did it take you to get that done? I assume you have to tape it up for all the different layers..... paper template maybe?

I too have searched for camo kydex to make my sheaths with --- no luck. My opinion is that the paint will not last in the field. The duracoat i have had experiance with was on guns and was baked on. But im not that familiar with it enough to say a 2 week cure wouldnt be durable, but the baked on is.

Good luck with the search, if i find a source Oku, i will contact you.
