Looking for first Busse

I am interested in trying a Busse. I think a knife with a blade in the range of 5.5 to 8 inches. I have seen some drop point ash and infidu that look like what I would like, but I am wide open to suggestions. I do want it in Infi steel to try that.

I am really having a hard time making sense of the naming and models. It is made especially difficult by the limited availability and short runs. Maybe once I hang around the forum, I will figure it out.

What would people suggest as a first knife in this line?

I'm interested also, would like to know some of the places people recommend buying Busse knives from.

Watch the exchange. There have been several models you mentioned available recently. There seems to be a rash of car breakdowns, expectant mothers and unsympathic wives that don't understand the need for INFI.
Blades are reluctantly thrown back into the trough....be prepared to stomp your way to INFI fulfillment :D

Best if you can get to a show (yes, they are somewhat limited) and get various blades in your hands

Find what fits, what feels best. Kinda hard to do via a 2-D picture off the interwebs...

If that is not something easily done, you will most likely have to buy/sell a few until you find THAT one...

Good luck on the quest...

Welcome. Search hard and research harder, I love the Team Gemini line myself. You will not have a single regret purchasing any INFI blade.

I will add that there are some model information links here that someone may be kind enough to provide to you. Also check out the Busse Bad Mojo site for much needed model info and drool worthy photos.

Hard to go wrong with a TGLB as your first Busse. ASH1 also not a bad choice - I have eleven of them. Just study, man, study. You will soon absorb the knowledge. Good luck and welcome...;-)

I love my BIG NMFSH. It's my carry knife (on pack) while hunting. Does a wide variety of jobs for me.

It was my fifth BUSSE though, bought and sold a Son of Badger, bought a INFIDU (awesome knife, but I'd probably buy one is SR-101 if I could do it again to save monies), and bought a Max Duty and Max Warden.

If you want INFI, I'd recommend buying a bigger (8+ inches) blade. They are useful and just plain fun to beat on.

But a guy can do pretty good buying and selling. The exchange has been very good to me.

As to the 'places to buy', your best place is the Exchange here on BF. Other forums also have For Sale sections, so you can look there as well. There are also many on eBay. There is also a site called 'Knifehunter', the owner is a moderator here, and he stocks a web-store. No matter where you buy, take some time to get familiar with resale pricing. Some sellers simply ask too much.

There are no retail, physical stores that sell Bussekin. Outside of Busse factory direct, you can get to a few shows where Busse sells. The Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot and Military Show is a great place to see and handle many knives, and meet some of the Busse team, and many fans. Your best selection there will be the Thuirsday night special pre-show. thatmguy is an authorized Busse seller, and sets up at some gun shows in Columbus OH, and the Indy 1500.

As to your first Busse in INFI, tell us a little more about what you expect to do with the knife, what you like or don't like about knives, thick, thin, heavy, light, wide, narrow, etc.

Go find 'Busse Collector' for some good info. Read all the stickies here, buried somewhere in there is a glossary of many of the Busse acronyms.

Enjoy the Quest!

an infi Ratmandu or aka "infiManDu" or maybe a Swatmandu.. best ergo's ever.... other than that you can't go wrong with any of these :

Busse: Ash "anniversary Steel Heart"
Busse: Badger Attack TAC
Busse: FSH "Fusion Steel Heart"
Busse: HHFSH
Busse: NMFSH "Nuclear Meltdown Fusion Steel Heart" longer blade and thicker.
Busse: NMSFNO "Nuclear Meltdown Special Forces Natural Outlaw"
Busse: SARsquatch Clip Point
Busse: Satin Jack TAC
Busse: Steel Heart
Busse: SwatManDu
Busse: Tank Buster

Blade Forums and Busse/Scrapyard/Swamprat themselves are your best bet. I also bought some kin off of AR15.com's Equipment Exchange and Jerzeedevil as well.

This place is pretty good , gives you pictures of most of the busses out there with specs http://www.badmojo.net/

Yes, lots of great info here. At some point you will have to make a leap of faith, and buy one to try from a distance. Just get to know the pricing ranges first. A bit overwhelming for all of us in the beginning, but part of the enjoyment is in the learning. Good luck...;-)

My first one was TG and I would definitely recommend it. The thing about Busse is that you can physically feel the quality in your hands once you hold them. You can really tell they take pride in their work.

Follow this guy around to the shows he goes to. Its pretty much a for sure way to score an awesome blade.

+1 to that.

Don't be afraid to go big! Get a battle mistress while they are available directly from Busse. You're going to want one at some point and then you will pay more for it. If you really don't want one, you can't go wrong with an INFIdu or a regular ratmandu from the Swamp.

Wow, you are overwhelming me. The more I look, the more I find I like.

As to what I like and want and will do:

Mostly I camp, hunt and such. I enjoy a large blade over a hatchet. Basic camp work including batoning wood. I mess around with bushcraft style camping, so shelters and the like are built requiring some chopping and carving.

Hunting, butchering home raised hogs and hunted hogs, general farm type jobs, and any job that a large blade can be used for.

I have a tops tahoma right now, and I am a little disappointed in it. It just does not have the heft I expected. It works, but it does not have that pizzazz or whatever I can't explain.

The ash1 is appealing
So is the batac, infidu but I would like a longer blade.

Your best bang for the buck will probably be a NMSFNO; although, at 8", it's a bit large for bushcrafting.

My 2c go with NMSFNO canvas handle and you will not look back. It is an awesome camp knife. It is a beefier knife that the tacoma but around the same size. The custom shop has blanks no long ago you can check with them.
