Looking for first fixed blade EDC

Just in case it wasn't clear, the only difference between the Izula and the Izula II is that the latter has a slightly longer handle and comes with micarta scales. The blade is exactly the same in every other respect. The stainless Izula is the exact same form factor as the Izula (not the II), just in 440C rather than 1095.

I don't find the coating to be any kind of hindrance, personally, but as others have pointed out, it's easy to strip if you don't like it. That's my recommendation, if you can budget it.

The EK&T Companion is my current choice, but unfortunately, you wouldn't be getting one for a while anyway. Check out the CRKT Minimalist line, and the SPEW—not the best steel, but definitely good enough to try out. If you're into slightly more exotic designs, CRKT also has the Obake, Achi, Akari, and probably a few more.

On your budget, your best bet is to look at "neck knives" and just carry in whatever configuration suits you. A Tek-Lok or G-Clip will be your friend.

Personally, I prefer the Izula II over the Izula.
That little extra bit of handle length makes a world of difference.
And the stock micarta scales are very comfortable.

Welcome to the Forum! If you might like something a little more "traditional" and less "tactical," then check out the Enzo Neckers - they come in full-flat or saber-ground blades, birch wood or micarta handle scales (and several color options), and Kydex (for neck carry) or leather (for belt carry) sheaths. I've got a couple of them, and I love 'em:

I got mine on sale for $49 - normally they're about $59 - at BladeHQ.

The Izulas look great, I want to try out something like them for an EDC fixed blade that isnt my mora. I LOVE the Mora but it is a bit big and bulky for an EDC. Plus I would have an excuse to try a new brand.

I was going to mention these, because they sure are pretty (and come in multiple grinds), but I found the handle scales to be intolerably rough. If you don't mind that, they are great blades.

My Izula 2 performs just fine with the coating but I admit it probably would do better without it, just based on geometry.

Thanks Neighbor (I'm also in SE MI). They're so affordable, it's really hard not to pick up a few of those Enzo's. And the same goes for the Izula's - I've got a handful of those as well - this is my standard EDC Izzy:

BTW, don't stress too much about about which one to get... if you're like most of us, you'll end up with both of them eventually!
