look at this, I posted this before... here is my ASTK-V (18"), my CS SK-5 GK and one of my Tamangs...
then the spines, same order...
the "cheaper" CS ones are actually machetes and in fact are 1050 steel...
I haven't used my CS GK since I bought my first HI Khuk and I am not certain why I even keep it. They simply cannot compete, even with a Tamang, when it comes to durability and chopping ability. If it is self defense, then the Tamang far out shines the CS blade while still out clearing the brush and being far more useful for general bushcrafting. I am 5'10" and 260# and pretty strong and find myself using my Tamang most of the time for everything. When it is time to chop down a tree or really chop something up, I turn to the ASTK. Couple a Tamang with a knife like the R-10 and you are completely covered for bushcraft IMO.
