Looking for folding pocket knives brand that don't use ball bearings for blade swinging

What exactly do you expect to pry on your car using a knife?
Why not just put a 6" or 8" flat prybar in the glovebox or console?
As an engineer, you should recognize that a blade is a very poor substitute for a proper prybar.
Thinner bladestock would benefit self defense uses as well. Although I find a knife to be a terribly poor SD tool.
What make you think you can reach the glove compartment? What if you are the driver or passenger in the back seat? That the knife is the ONLY tool you have, then what?

I did not say this is my main tool for SD, it's actually the last ditch already. Also, like I said, you do NOT carry any weapon without knowing how to use it. People better practice knife fighting if they carry a knife for SD, AND it's NOT like one week or one month. They better practice regularly for extended period of time.

What the hell is going on here? Talking to this guy is like talking to a wall. Just lock this and move on it’s pointless.
Yes, just spend more money, it will be all good.

Hey, at least I presented my case in detail, none of you present anything so far to prove I am wrong on anything other than spend more money to get a name brand one.

No one said to spend more money.

Regarding the bearing milling on the blade…just because it is thinner than the blade does not mean that it won’t perform properly.

I don't know whether Speedsafe spring assisted open is legal in Kalifornia
As has been referenced for you already, your Kershaw Speedsafe folders are clearly legal at California state level laws. But each of the 58 counties and umpteen cities are allowed to make their own rules regarding knives, with no accounting for the state or federal law. So a visit, call or email to local police cheif's offices for cities, or sheriff's office for counties if your rural would be smart. I would want chapter and verse from each document of authority for each law, and I might carry a summary card for, um, training purposes. Never argue with police, that is what your lawyer is for. I already contacted Doug Ritter, who is the goto expert, and was not suprised to read about this California legal situation.
Aren't inferior products designed by engineers too?
No, they are designed by marketing who hire or contract engineers... or not, AFTER ALL WHO NEEDS ENGINEERS. :-)...
The Steel Will Warbot will be here tomorrow, let me see how that works out.
You have a lot of pre-conceptions, and I read no references from those whose shoulders your ideas stand on, but I am interested in any concrete facts you can share about your new Warbot. In my mind, I see Lynn Thompson talking about not enough reach and training, a good read titled Left of Bang, and excellent training for non-military civilians by Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, The Bullet Proof Mind. I believe the experts when they all keep saying training, training, training and the fight is never what you trained for..

I bet I would end up having to go to the police station and ask them directly about the spring assist thing to be sure. I do have a Kershaw that I can show them.
Yup, go ahead and carry a potentially illegal knife right into the police station and show it to them.....make sure you bring money for bail.......just read the law, it should not be hard to figure out if you actually have a college education.

Does calling yourself an engineer imply that you know what you are talking about? Aren't inferior products designed by engineers too?
What the hell is going on here? Talking to this guy is like talking to a wall. Just lock this and move on it’s pointless.
He's an engineer, didn't you know? Knows everything, and nothing is made right unless he approves it, and he's going to show everybody that every knife maker in the past 50 years has been doing it wrong.

This has got to be a troll post..........

Well, I just see it as I call it. I present my diagnostic in detail and reasoning here, anyone actually respond in technical way other than buy more expensive ones!!! I am not sure those knives were designed by engineers!!!
What diagnostic? Posting a couple pictures and ranting about things you know nothing about can hardly be called "diagnostics in detail".....How about actually proving that the whole world is wrong and you are right?

There are cheap knives, and there are inexpensive knives. The cheap ones are just that, cheap. Not all inexpensive knives are cheaply made, some inexpensive knives have build quality well above the price point.
The expensive knives are for the most part very well made, with top notch engineering. The high cost is due to more expensive materials, expensive machinery (overhead costs to pay for it all) and a lot of labor costs for the time and effort involved in making them. They are not stamped out by the thousands in a large factory like the $5 Chinese gas station knives you know......
