Looking for Inexpensive Shoulder Bag for Survival Supplies

all of my shoulder bags/small backpacks have come from walmart, old navy, gap, h&m, etc.

you can often find decently constructed small shoulder bags for around $10 at walmart, and at the other places on sale from time to time.

If you don't mind camo for girls, you could get some MOLLE II sustainment pouches for pretty darn cheap. They're 8" x 11" x 4", have top flaps closed by a fastex buckle and a drawstring closure underneath. They also have a D-ring on each side for fastening a strap.

Most are in woodland or ACU camo, but some are in plain colors, coyote brown probably being the closest thing to acceptable to girls (or black for aftermarket versions).

ETA I used a surplus buttpack for years as a shoulder bag. They're usually even cheaper than the sustainment pouches.

Those look pretty good. Where do you get those pouches.I'm not too concerned about the color considering the purpose. My daughter actually likes the woodsy look when going out into the wilderness. Plus my 6 yr old son will be getting to the age where he'll be bringing along friends. It would be nice to have something bright orange or yellow but I bought a bunch of bright orange bandanas and still have a whole case of bright orange heavy duty 55 gal trash bags that I bought a while back that will work good for signaling in an emergency. It would be 10 years before I'll use all of those up. I could also braid some paracord straps in about any color.

I get them off eBay. Sometimes they have a lot of 5 or so for around $25 + shipping. Plus you'd have to get some sort of strap. A cheap bylon strap or one of the cheap padded nylon rifle slings would go well.

Thrift stores rule!

I got a nice REI day pack last week for $5. I have picked up FOUR different Timbuk2 bags over the years for $10 or less, and in good shape too. I get camera bags for $1-$3 on a regular basis and they make good PSK bags. I got a Manhattan Portage messenger bag a couple weeks ago for $5 and it sells for $75 new. External frame backpacks from Kelty, REI, and Jansport are typically $10. Aluminum mess kits are usually $1.99.

Digging around in the kitchen knives has produced a nice selection of Forschner and Henckels-- for $0.69 to $1.99 each.

Outdoor clothing is similar-- I got a $125 Patagonia Houdini wind shirt for $20, a Mountain Hardwear soft shell for $10, and I can't tell you how many GoreTex jackets and pants I've found. My EDC rain jacket is a nice Helly Hansen that cost me a whole $6. I got a couple 5.11 shirts for $5-$6 each over the last couple weeks, one nylon and the other cotton. The one thing I haven't found is a North Face Denali fleece in good shape.

If you want cheap... go to the local Wal-Mart and buy either an Allen Range Bag in the Sporting Goods section or a Tool Bag in the harware section. Both should only cost like 20 bucks and are decently durable. If you're willing to spend more than $50.00 I suggest looking into a Maxpedition Versipack. They are WONDEFUL and just about bullet proof. I love mine and have drug them through Hell and back and they're still kickin.

Camera bags at WalMart are pretty cheap. Also, I've found surplus AK-47 magazine pouches for $5 each. The ones that hold four 30 rd mags are a good size for a shoulder bag. You'd need to add a strap to them.

I got this one to carry my books to class, it's in your price range and fairly rugged. It's also not too big and it comes in several colors ( unfortunately bright orange is not one of them)...

I also have this one for an outdoors diaper bag. It's a little smaller and a little more expensive but it has more pockets...

I think either of these would work for your purposes. The second one may be sized more appropriately for the 6 yr old but the first will double as a school bag if needed.

Too much $ for a little bag. I got one from SMG, it looks great till you load it up. Then you can't latch it shut. If you force it closed, keepers look like they will pop off. Pockets are too little also.
One guy said it was perfect for a popular girls book to fit in.
