Hello to all here, as you can see I'm new around here, thank you for having me. Here is my story, when I was in my early teens my father bought me my first hunting knife. I believe it was a Buck Knife but I cant be 100% sure. It looked much like the current Model 110FG

110_FG.jpg

However its wood was stained black and the blade was black except for the edge that had been sharpened. The metal ends (for lack of knowing there proper names) had a polished chrome look. And I remember some kind of chrome emblem in the wood, a dear head and Tasco are sticking out in my mind.

I loved this knife very much as it was one of the truly meaningful gifts my father ever gave me, not to mention that I just loved the look and sturdiness of this heavy knife. I used to enjoy showing it off to my childhood friends. When I got into my later teens I would carry it sometimes. I was out with a girl on a date one night and lost it at this pool hall we went to. The girl never amounted to anything thank God as I'm happily married to a wonderful women and in my mid 30's, however from time to time I think about this knife and wish I still had it.

I have searched the net off and on for years now hoping to maybe come across one, but unfortunately cant even seem to find any information on a knife like it. I was hoping that maybe some of you knowledgeable knife hobbyists might be able to help me in my quest. I would like to maybe purchase this knife if I did happen to find one or maybe even one very similar.

Thanks for your help.

WOW!!

Sorry about the double post but I think I may have found some info about it right here on this forum! In this post lerman has a photo of what I remember it looking like. The bottom picture and the knife in the middle looks very similar to it. I will contact him and see what he might be able to tell me!

What a great forum!

EDIT: OK! well I have found the answers to my own questions right here at this forum! I have found that I can order this knife custom from Buck Knives directly!

You may know this already but we have a Buck Knives Forum here under the manufacturers forums subtopics at:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=701

Those guys over there can likely pin down the actual knife you are looking for. They are a fun and unique group of folks too.

The only other suggestion is go to www.eBay.com and look through there vintage Buck knives and sooner or later it will come up for auction. I have found some very hard to find pieces over there from time to time. The keys are patience and percerverance.:)

Many Blessings ~~ `><> ~~

Thank you for your warm greeting sunnyd

Yes I did find the buck knife section, however it was after I had made this thread.

If a moderator could more this thread to that forum I would appreciate it very much.

Yes I have been to eBay many time looking for this knife. I have found some similar but none that have the dear head on the wood. As I stated above I did happen to come across the custom 110 knife ordering section at the Buck website. I can order one very similar to what I'm looking for but of course with out the dear hear. I think I will order one anyway as its damn close and maybe I will come across what the dear head one on eBay some year.

The 110 I plan to order I would like the blade engraved with our family's name but I'm not sure how the engraving would look on a black blade. Does anyone have a picture of something like this? Also from the custom order form its hard to tell what the indigo royalwood looks like. I have seen a very pictures of it posted here but none of good quality. Does anyone have a good picture of a 110 with the indigo royalwood?

Hey BuckFinder...
Welcome. Thanks also to SunnyD for sending us fresh meat. LOL ;)
Hope this pic helps a bit.
Bummer about the original knife. You lost it in a pool bet, or just "lost" it?
Interesting and good story to read, thanks.
Where is that gal now? I'm kinda bored...

Hello Buckaholic

I have no idea what happened to that girl ;) she was a few years older then I and had a boy friend so I came to find out.

No I wouldn't have bet with this knife. I simply lost it as I didnt have it in its sheath that night but rather in my pocket  and it must have fallen out at one of the booths or maybe in her car and it ended up in her boy friends hand ... I always wondered about that :(

I did see that picture you posted already! Its a nice example of what I'm looking to order, but I would still like a better picture of the indigo if anyone knows of one. I'm pretty sure I'm just going to go with the indigo anyway. I like the Damascus Steel on that one too, but I plan to get my first one as close to the one from my memories from my youth which had the Black Oxide.

Here is another question about the indigo, its not a skin or laminate is it  I want a wood that looks to be stained black which the indigo looks the closest to.

Trust me it is blue :D not even close to black!!!! :D

Well I guess I should have realized that huh "indigo royal" DUHHH!! :p

From all the pictures I have seen it almost looks black, I guess thats why I just assumed. Even on the custom order site it doesn't look blue at all. Thank you for clearing this up for me.

IIRC, Joe Houser commented in another thread that the early 110's were Macassar Ebony, which is a very dark wood, almost black...

And there were also early 110's with black Micarta scales...

You may have had one or another of those... :)

No problem I made the same mistake :D I just didnt think it was THAT blue!
Try the Smooth asian water buffalo, that looks neat :D
I dont know of any black or dark wood unless you have it done custom, which is always possible!

Yes and I want to thank you for correcting me once again, I would have been really disappointed if I had ordered the indeigo, well expecting it to be black that is, I'm sure the indigo looks great but its not what I'm looking for at this time.

I was considering the water buffalo, but I liked the woodgrain however I did just see the picture of one that was sold here

Which is very nice looking and if it had the black oxide blade would look sweet!

@chickentrax

Thank you for that info, that may have been what I had indeed. I did come across this picture here also by lerman

That knife in the center is dead on what I'm looking for. That knife appears to have the black wood. I have tried to contact lerman for a bit of info, but he has yet to reply.

Thanks to everyone that has helped and replied here, this really is a great forum with some really great people!

Here's another look at the ebony.

If you want the dark blade have you condidered getting an Alaskan Guide Series 110?

Yeah, what Mike said. You can't go wrong with those. The Bass Pro has no logo and I heard the Alaskan Guide logo is easy to remove.

Jim...what the heck scale is that on the bottom AG??

Alaskan guide logo wasnt too easy to remove, It took a lot of elbow grease and Xylol. I tried acetone and it didnt even fade it.
I got 'er though! :D

The bottom one is a custom scaled Mammoth tooth. I love it!!

Oh, I thought it was relatively to get off with some paint remover jazz. Maybe that's why I just put a band-aid on mine.

Mammoth tooth looks cool. I guess those wooly's didn't have a good dental regime. Looks like the front teeth of some homeless crack ho that hangs by my local watering hole.
Did you get it from Cablea's like that???
