Hey all I’m looking for a larger fixed blade knife. I would like the blade to between 6 1/2 inches to 8 inches. With CPM 3V steel or something equivalent. I have my eyes on some Cold Steel Recon Scouts in 3V for around $300. Is there a better option out there in that price range?

Side Note: I am also liking the look of the Chris Reeve Pacific in 4V but they seem to run at least $200 more. And not sure if the quality is worth the extra expense.

Any ideas will be helpful or if you have experienced the Cold Steel Recon scout would love you take on it.

Take a look at Bradford knives. The Guardian 6 comes in 3V and I believe it fits your parameters.

*edit*
It might run just a bit short but still worth a look.

I really like the Cold Steel Magnum Tanto II in 3v. Also look at the Cold Steel Magnum IX tanto in 3v. Very sharp, beautiful and strong blades, really well built. Get the Nightfall series ones with the black coating.

Within your specs there is a huge range of options, so it would help if you are more specific.

What do you want to do with the knife ? Is it for the kitchen or a SHTF knife ? How high and thick should the blade be, how heavy, do you like a choil, any blade shape preference, Sabre vs flat vs hollow, do you like a guard, how do you want to carry, how big are your hands, etc.

For instance, these are two dramatically different 8“ blades. A little out of your budget, but not by much, point is they are like night and day, even though they are same blade length and maker:

Think about it this way: What would you tell a custom maker how your knife should look like ? Tell us, then we can help better than just throw a blade name at you.

Hey Cornfed, message me. A dealer has the Recon Scout in 3v on sale for $199. I really wish I hadn’t seen that. Sigh, what’s a knife addict to do…
Hey I tried to message you but for some reason I can’t. Would love to know who the dealer is? $199 for a recon scout in 3V is pretty hard to pass up.
