What do you want to do with the knife ? Is it for the kitchen or a SHTF knife ? How high and thick should the blade be, how heavy, do you like a choil, any blade shape preference, Sabre vs flat vs hollow, do you like a guard, how do you want to carry, how big are your hands, etc.

For instance, these are two dramatically different 8“ blades. A little out of your budget, but not by much, point is they are like night and day, even though they are same blade length and maker:

Think about it this way: What would you tell a custom maker how your knife should look like ? Tell us, then we can help better than just throw a blade name at you.

Hey I appreciate the reply and the suggestions. I’m basically looking for a SHTF knife that I can either use tactically and possibly camping type stuff. In the picture you posted I’m really liking the bottom blade. That is a lot more my style. Could you tell me the specs of that knife? I think it will help give me more knowledge of what I’m looking for.

That's a Busse DSF, Blade Length 8", Overall Length 13.75", 14.4oz, .230" INFI blade stock and 1.954" blade depth. To find one, watch the Exchange, it happens occasionally.

Busse is just now releasing a 7" Jack Tac, you can order a new one for ca. $400. It's a little deeper and shorter than the DSF above, and Saber ground. See also 7" Jack TAC

And for similiar money I can also recommend the CPK SDFK that was mentioned above. Also with a 7" blade, 0.25" thick.

This. Best 7" blade I've handled, for several reasons.

The Recon Scout fits nicely in the middle of the Trail Master and the SRK. It is a very nice all around blade and can do tasks above and below it’s weight class. It’s an underrated knife that would be a standout if it were not for its famous big and little brothers. Try the Vintage and classic knives they have already been proven. SOG Seal Team Seki Japan, Kershaw 4070 series, Gerber, Hackman, ... Plus the fact they are no longer produced the values keeps going up. Hard to lose money.

I have a lot of large fixed blades (almost my entire collection). The best knife I own in terms of price to performance ratio is the Scrapyard DB421. It’s a true Jack of all trades knife and does all knife related tasks exceptionally. It will give 3V, INFI and 80CrV2 a good run for its money in terms of edge retention and toughness. The only downside to this knife is it’s out of production. View attachment 2066116
