Looking for pics of Plate Quenching Setup

I was talking about what zaph said about 50lbs of alu.

I know, and I really should have quoted the original statement. I was just pointing out that none of the posters who've shown photos or given dimensions of their quench plates are using anywhere near that much metal.

Mine are not 50, but definitely more than 10 altogether. At least it felt that way when I was handling them during the build.

You're right, 11lbs per plate, 6"x18"x1". 22 lbs. total for my plates. My original 12x18 plate weighed 22 lbs(I was guesstimating around 25lbs.). I was think two of these plates(2 x 25lbs), then I remembered we cut it in half. My bad. That should raise the temp of the plate in my above equation to around 110°-115°. Still, it doesn't get the plates that hot for a single blade.

I just use my drill press as the pressure. I do have a rockwell tester and consistantly get hard steel. I quench in the foil first and remove the part, turn the plates over for a cool side and quench until cool to touch. It goes quickly. I only do a couple at a time as these plates arent wide enough for more than than at once.

Thanks for the specs and the pic.
On a side note I would love a hardness tester to know if I am doing things right but that will have to wait, not enough funds.
