Looking for small (3.5") fixed blade for horizontal carry on belt

it's more or less the name of the person. Is it gonna cut better than so and so's? probably not...but it will fetch a much much higher dollar!

Ok, so I've got a Ka-Bar Becker Necker San-Mai version coming, along with the Cold Steel Counter Tac II, and I'll be ordering the ESEE 3 and 6 next up. Will try to do a few reviews here and there. Thanks much for all your help everyone! I wish ManVenture Outpost carried ESEE products though :( I'm thinking New Graham or GPKnives. Any other suggestions for places with good pricing and good customer service (if I'm allowed to ask without it being deal spotting)?

Congrats on the wise purchases! I always buy my knives from The Knife Connection.

Sounds like you already decided, but you definately need to check out the Eskabar. Its a combination of the Izula & the Becker Necker, & its an imrovement over both. The Becker has a great blade shap, but an awful handle, & the izula has a great handle, but a shorter blade. Esse & Becker collaborated, and put the Becker blad on the Izula handle. Its the best of both worlds & a great knife for edc, with a great sheath that can easily be carried horizonally, either with paracord, or a small tek lok(which is the way I carry it). Its affordable too, so even if you've already ordered another blade, you can still get one without breaking the bank.

The CRKT Stiff Kiss with clip point blade fits your requirement. It's getting harder to find though. It carries beautifully in the horizontal position or around the neck and is light weight. Blade is around 3.5" and keeps an edge well enough for everyday usage. I coated the grip in Plasti-Dip and greatly improved the knife. The Izula, with a Plasti-Dipped, not cord wrapped, grip would be excellent. You don't want a cold skeleton grip. Plati-Dip is easy to apply, looks fine and insulates and improves the grip without adding bulk. It also cleans up easily.

Several years ago, Buck introduced the Gen5 series - the 005RWS, top below, has a CPM154 blade, rosewood Dymondwood handle, brass bolster, and leather drop sheath. The 005GYS, bottom below, has a 420HC blade, charcoal Dymondwood handle, nickel silver bolster, and adaptable V or H carry nylon sheath.

They run $95-$110 and $60-$75, when you find them. The 005GYS can be carried horizontally on a belt - and is my hiking/woods walking choice. 420HC takes a great edge - and keeps it quite well. I carry it in marshes near the Gulf Coast - it has better 'all-weather' capability than the RWS variant. The 005RWS was a disappointment in use - loved the blade metal - but, the knurled checkering is uncomfortable to me. Neither is a current catalog item, so you may pay a premium now for either now.

I must second the Spyderco Street Beat, I carry this in my briefcase every day, vert compact, and a great slicer

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I actually chose the Becker because I like the handle design better. While I don't generally drink beer (my tastes run more to harder stuff on the rare occasions I decide to go that route), I do enjoy a good Virgil's root beer, and sometimes you just need a bottle opener. Would be nice to have one on something I regularly carry. Plus it was nice and cheap at MVO, where I was already trying out the Counter-Tac. Now, an ESEE blade on the Becker handle... that I would try out.

I'm currently using a CRKT backup knife, and honestly, I'm never buying CRKT again. Disappointed with the M16, and disappointed with the Sting. Sure, they keep an OKAY edge, but the quality is just so much lower for the money than I'd like. Haven't been pleased with Buck's recent offerings either.

Spyderco--again, just doesn't cut it for me, because the handle is so thick. May work fine in a briefcase, but their fixed blades are awful on a horizontal rig at the back of one's belt. Need something light and low profile.
