Looking For Some Dog Breed Advice!

That's a beautiful AmBull you've got there! I love the Molosser breeds  My own dog is a Newfoundland.

Some words of advice about your pup, taken from lots of reading and some personal experience:

- it takes 2 years for the larger molosser (mastiff/bully) breeds to fully physically develop. Your gal will need exercise but shouldn't be subjected to anything too intensive until her joints are fully grown.

- socialize her fully with other dogs and people while she's young. Socialize her on-leash and off-leash, at dog parks, in the woods, etc. Let her meet lots of different people and dogs.

- feed her quality food. She'll be healthier and you'll save money in the long run.

- your gal may have food allergies (I mention this because my Newf does). Ask the breeder if the parents have any known allergies.

- she's gonna be STRONG. I love the prong collar for on-leash walks. Choker collars are less effective and much more dangerous. Other people like the halter leash, a combination of muzzle and leash. For me and The Newf, the prong works well.

Good luck and give her lots of attention. Molosser breeds are consummate people dogs. Most of the breeds live for their family, first and foremost. If you're gone all day, your dog may benefit from a companion; it's something worth thinking about.

Here's an excellent web site with loads of info about the molossers. Click the "breeds" link and you'll find LOTS of dogs, the American Bulldog being on of 'em
