looking for some one to surface grind some blanks

You can use it to remove scale, tapper the tangs , and make sure the flats are flat, and almost polished. Just makes the work easer.

That looks great IG, I see how it works and have the cross-slide table at least. Finding a chuck I can afford will be the trick. But my issue is I have no welder, couldn't weld well if I did have one, and don't know any welders. Sheesh. But I can tap and die with the best of them, and bolt stuff together like nobody's business. ;)

I've no doubt. I'm going to keep thinking about it too. If I ever find a chuck, that will be the day I get serious...

An alternating series of those cheap 100LB or 150LB pick-up magnets epoxied face up between 3/16" flat stock. Set everything face down on a 3" x 1" x 18" chunk of steel flat, glue or weld it up. flip it over, true it up on the flat stock and weld or epoxy it up.

The common CR flat bar that us knife makers use 'may' be precision enough for our purposes to hold blade steel true.

you'll need a couple of axles, a sturdy steel track that is smooth and true and 4 bearings for wheels.

Some ideas to build off of anyway..
